By Lee Ostrom
The people of Glencoe-Silver Lake District 2859 began getting acquainted with 4.0 School Services in 2006, the year the company entered into its initial contract with the district for transportation services.
Apparently, school officials like what they see from 4.0.
At Monday's regular board meeting, directors voted 7-0 (Anne Twiss was absent) to enter into a new contract with 4.0 School Services; this one for grounds services.
Michelle Sander, the district's business manager, said a facilities committee started looking at grounds-maintenance options after one of the district's big mowers broke down last year. Replacement of the mower wears a $45,000 price tag.
Further, Sander said research also concluded that GSL 2859 was not hiring enough manpower to properly care for and maintain its 37 acres of grounds.
So last fall, 4.0 School Services was called in to assist.
Eventually, though, the favored option of the facilities committee became entering into an agreement for a full-services program with 4.0 School Services. The deal would run for one year, defined as from April 1, 2010, through Nov. 15, 2010. After that, options would be revisited.
The agreement, at a cost of $70,000, plus another $5,000 for herbicides applications, resulted after a motion by Gary Schreifels and a second from Kevin Kuester.
Andy Bright, one of the 4.0 School Services owners, said Monday evening that his company currently is doing full-services programs at two other Wright County Conference schools, namely Delano and Mound-Westonka.
What does a full-services program include?
