By Rosalind Kohls
To the Editor:
Contact our congressman, U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, now and tell him to vote against the government takeover of the U.S. health care system.
During August, Peterson and other government officials are on recess, soliciting their constituents' opinions on various issues.
Here is why I'm alarmed about the legislation President Obama is pushing through Congress:
First, this nation cannot afford to spend another $1.6 trillion on the takeover when most people are already satisfied with the way health care is now.
Second, the government will not be able to find enough tax dollars for it by merely taxing the "rich." If it raises taxes on everyone else, it will kill the economy.
Third, the current version of the bill, as of Aug. 10, required taxpayer-funded abortions, to which I am adamantly opposed.
Fourth, if government officials really believed the public health care option is so wonderful, they would put themselves and their families in it. Obviously, they don't believe that.
Finally, I don't want bureaucrats and politicians making medical decisions through an "effectiveness board" for me and my family, instead of my doctor.
Health care is a matter of life and death, and makes up a sixth of the U.S. economy. Tell Peterson to read the entire bill before he makes a decision, and to choose to vote "No."
Peterson's Willmar address is 320 4th St. SW, Centre Point Mall, Willmar, MN 56201. You can also e-mail him at his Web site.

Well said Rosalind Kohls of Glencoe. We need more people like you to speak up and encourage everyone to contact their federal representative and senators. Contact Rep Peterson's chief of staff Mark Brownell. Here is his email address mark.brownell@mail.house.gov You can also call and fax the DC offices. Rep Peterson Ph 202-225-2165 Fax 202-225-1593 Sen Klobuchar Ph 202-224-3244 Fax 202-228-2186 Sen Franken Ph 202-224-5641 Fax 202-224-0044
Please be polite when you call or write. Keep it short and to the point but make sure you remind them that they represent you and that you are opposed to the Government take over of Health Care. They need to hear our message over and over.
