County CUP hearing on Biscay sanitary draws comments

The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commissioner held a public hearing Wednesday regarding a conditional use permit (CUP) application by the city of Biscay for its proposed sanitary sewer improvements.

The $1.8 million project, already under construction, will build a "cluster" mound system to serve the sanitary sewage needs of 29 homes in the city.

An engineer for the city said most of the necessary permits had been aquired, but a conditional use permit from the county had been overlooked.

Brownton, New Century Academy in talks

New Century Academy, a seventh- through 12th-grade charter school in Hutchinson, may be looking to relocated, the Brownton City Council heard at a special meeting Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Mayor Jay Werner said he, Council Member Norm Schwarze and City Clerk Ella Kruse have been meeting with New Century personnel about possibly leasing the former Brownton school, which the city owns, to New Century.

The city sent out questionnaires with its last utility bills asking citizens if they would be interested in a charter school in the city.

Marian (Madsen) Lenz, 92, of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care in Glencoe.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 22, at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. The Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating.
Kelly LeCrone was the song leader and Sue Mielke was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Be Not Afraid,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” and “Amazing Grace.”

Eleanor C. Baumann, 78, of NYA

Eleanor Baumann, 78, of Norwood Young America (NYA), died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Auburn Manor in Waconia.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home, 141 E First St., in Waconia. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

Alvin M. Dudek, 87, of Watertown

Alvin M. Dudek, 87, of Watertown, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Joseph Fink as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service, at 7:30 p.m., and Friday one hour prior to the Mass, all at the church. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Marcella Hausauer, 76, Bismarck, N.D.

Marcella “Marci” Hau-sauer, 76, of Bismarck, N.D., died Sept. 17, 2014, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
The funeral service was Sunday, Sept. 21, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bismarck with the Rev. Nadine Lehr officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bismarck.

William ‘Billy’ Koester, 70, of Stewart

William “Billy” Frederick Koester, 70, of Stewart, formerly of Glencoe, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at his home.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 20, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating.
Rhonda Else and Abby McKimm were the pianists. Special music by Renae McKimm was “Children of the Heavenly Father.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”

Washingtons welcome girl

Antoine and Gloria (Rettig) Washington are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Ryen Avery, on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, N.M. Ryen weighed 7 pounds and was 20 inches in length. She is welcomed by siblings Jacie, 12, and Brycen, 9. Grandparents are Elmer and Amy Rettig of Stewart and Sharon Washington of Florence, Ky. Her great-grandmother is Frances Loncorich of Stewart.

Son for Brownton couple

Kayla Katzenmeyer and Cory McDonald of Brownton announce the birth of their son, Cayden Michael McDonald, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Cayden weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long. His older sibling is Kiley McDonald. Grandparents are Bruce and Amy Muetzel and Kerry Katzenmeyer, all of Brownton, and Terry and Shelley McDonald of Hutchinson.
