Avis (Osmek) Keen, 96, of Richfield

Avis Josephine (nee Osmek) Keen, 96, of Richfield, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; son, Jeffrey; parents, John and Mary (Ellis) Osmek; sister, Mary; and brother, George, and his wife, Hattie.
She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Daniel and Vivian; niece and her husband, Monica and Gerald Voight; and nieces-in-law, Maureen Sanford and Sue Wraneshay.

Son born to Pesina family

Mike and Katie Pesina of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Kaeden Michael, on July 17, 2014, at Hutchinson Health. Kaeden weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches in length. Grandparents are Leon and Donna Pesina of Glencoe and Phil and Joyce Thinesen of Cokato. Great-grandparent is Phil Thinesen Sr. of Cokato.

Aul family welcomes son

Nathan and Nicole Aul of Minneapolis announce the birth of their son, Ace Henrick, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Children’s Hospital and Clinics, the Mother Baby Center, in Minneapolis. Ace weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 193⁄4 inches long. Grandparents are Dave and Joyce Aul of Glencoe and Jodi Jukich of Hibbing.

Schleusner — Mallak

Natalie Schleusner of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Michael Mallak of Glencoe, were united in marriage Aug. 8 at Calico Skies Winery in Inwood, Iowa.
Parents of the couple are Dave and Marilee Schleusner of Rock Rapids and Dave and Chris Mallak of Glencoe.
The couple resides in Minneapolis.

Rebecca Schrempp and Jeremy Lang of New Ulm announce their engagement and plans to wed on Sept. 27 in Glencoe.
Parents of the bride are Ronald and Linda Schrempp of Glencoe and parents of the groom are Carol and Pat Haubrich and Dennis Lang and Lynn Towles, all of New Ulm.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School, a 2004 graduate of Ridgewater College and a 2008 graduate of North Hennepin Community College. She is employed at Alliance Bank.
The groom is a 1998 graduate of New Ulm Senior High and is employed at AMPI.

Like a moth to flame, me to thermostat

The moon pulls at the tide. A magnet attracts steel. An open flame draws a moth.
I know how that feels.
Last Friday, when I awoke to 35 degrees outdoors and 60 degrees indoors, I was attracted to my thermostat like a moth to a flame. The same thermostat I walk past 50 times a day without ever even noticing it hanging on the wall.
But Friday morning, I was tempted to turn the little wheel up to 65 degrees for “just a few minutes to get the chill out.”

Need diet advice? I’ve tried them all

It’s no secret I enjoy food. I’ve professed my love for all things edible many times in this column, but my eating habits have gotten out of hand lately, and to avoid gaining back the 35 pounds I lost, I’ve been working on structuring my diet. Again.

A lost opportunity to set a good example

To the Editor:
On Friday, Sept. 12, while I was at work, someone hit my car in the high school parking lot and, knowing that they had hit my vehicle, still left without leaving a note or telling anyone.
It was around 5:40 to 5:45 and was a mother picking up her student from sports practice. Yes, there were witnesses, but I don’t know if that will help or not.

Checkbook returned by anonymous person

To the Editor:
Nearly eight weeks ago, I lost my checkbook, possibly in the Gaylord area.
Last Thursday, I received a letter which contained my checkbook. It was dirty and damp — it had been in the weather for a long time.
