Selda Benishek, 87, of Long Prairie, formerly of Bertha, died Aug. 23, 2014, at Centra Care Health in Long Prairie.
Memorial services are pending, and will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township.

Esmeralda Martinez and Alejandro Gonzalez of New Auburn announce the birth of their daughter, Aalia Gonzalez, on Monday, Aug. 11, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Aalia weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19 inches long. She is welcomed home by siblings Omar and Tanya. Grandparents are Ricardo Rosales and Maria Ponce, both of Brownton.

Nesse family welcomes son

Whitney and Karl Nesse of Brownton announce the birth of their son, Jonathan Karl, on Wednesday, Aug. 20,  at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Jonathan weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches in length. He is welcomed home by siblings Abby, Easton and Cora. Grandparents are Mark and Cheryl Sanken of Brownton and Ted and Mona Nesse of Stillwater.

Heather Stillings and Cecil Crislip of Gaylord announce the birth of their daughter, Celeana Haiden Crislip on Friday, Aug. 22, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Celeana weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19 inches in length. She is welcomed home by big brother Marco Stillings. Grandparents are Jane Stillings of Brownton, Greg Stillings of Chaska, and Sharon Crislip and Darrell Crislip, both of Huntington, W.V.

Breanna and Jon Thorson of Hopkins announce the birth of their daughter, Lydia Jo, on Thursday, Aug. 21. Lydia weighed 10 pounds, 4 ounces. Grandparents are Jon and Kristine Birkholz and Steve and Tony Thorson, all of Cokato. Great-grandparents are Larry and Jeanette Tongen of Brownton and Murl Birkholz of Cokato. Great-great-grandparents are Audrey Tongen of Brownton and Harriett Bergs of Glencoe.

Accidents continue at Glencoe intersections

Thursday afternoon, a group of law enforcement officials, fire department and emergency medical service personnel, folks from the local funeral home and the county highway department, a public health educator and others, all gathered at Glencoe Regional Health Services to discuss the possibility of a creating a McLeod County “Safe Communities Coalition” to partner with the Southwest Minnesota Towards Zero Deaths (TDZ) program to reduce traffic fatalities in McLeod County.

A few years ago, I bought myself a “smart” phone when I reached a milestone birthday (when you get to a certain age, any birthday is a milestone).
I’m not even sure why I wanted one, except that everyone else in the family had one.


County Board sets workshop to talk HHS building costs

Repairs and energy efficiency improvements at McLeod County’s Health and Human Services (HHS) building on Ford Avenue in Glencoe will take priority at a Sept. 23 County Board workshop.
County Administrator Pat Melvin presented the County Board Tuesday with a list of proposed repairs and improvements, and cost estimates for each.
The highest-priced items on the list were tuck pointing of the bricks and mortar joints at a cost of about $57,000, and replacement windows at a cost between $64,000 and $74,000.
