Panthers CC teams tune up for sections at conference meet

The 2015 Glencoe-Silver Lake cross country season inched closer to the finish line with the Wright County Conference West championship meet, held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in New London. The Panther boys’ team took third overall, with the girls’ squad coming in fifth.

Finally: a positive effort to heal relations

Black lives matter. Police lives matter. Every life matters.
Recent events throughout our country seem to be polarizing our citizens when it comes to law enforcement.
Some see law enforcement as a public service that has become brutally out of control, more interested in exerting its authority over the public than in serving them.
Others see the police as a victim of an out-of-control citizenry in which there is no respect — indeed disdain and hatred — for the very individuals we have charged with keeping law and order.

Sibley East lawsuit is very definition of frivolous

To the Editor:
Sibley East community:
This is the very definition of a frivolous lawsuit, not only on the facts, but because they also missed the deadline for filing it. The school is reaching for the stars with this suit. They didn’t even set the date for the bond sale until, I believe, after Jan. 1, until after we filed the appeal. For them to now say that we delayed the sale from Jan. 15 until June 10 is ridiculous.     

Probation officer honored for helping victims of violence

Andy Ypma is someone who just gets it. According to McLeod Alliance for Victims of Domestic Violence Legal Advocate Jill Barrall, that is one of the highest compliments an advocate can give to a community ally.
“He understands domestic violence,” Barrall said. “And he wants to see people safe.”

Glencoe native member of U of M winning dairy judging team

Glencoe native Nathan Donnay helped lead the University of Minnesota dairy cattle judging team to an overwhelming win at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, beating out 17 other teams. The team won by 54 points, the second-largest in history.

Sheriffs’ Association seeks input on vision for now, the future

Recent events, public opinions and media impressions reveal that law enforcement nationwide faces great challenges in terms of public trust that can impact its ability to protect and serve the public.  Minnesota is not immune to these issues, and Minnesotans have the right to expect excellent public service and leadership from law enforcement agencies.
