Netters fall in Section 2A opener

It’s every netter for herself now as the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ tennis team enters the Section 2A individual tournament on Thursday.
The Panthers’ full-squad season came to a close with an opening-round 7-0 loss to eventual sectional runner-up St. Peter on Thursday, Oct. 8 in the section team tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College.
GSL will be back at Gustavus Adolphus Thursday morning, with preliminary-round matches set to begin at 9 a.m.

Cross country squads nearing end of regular season

The Glencoe-Silver Lake cross country teams braved the wind and cold on Thursday, Oct. 8 to run in the Litchfield Invitational at Litchfield Golf Club. The GSL boys placed seventh in their 15-team field, while the girls took tenth out of 14 teams. Both squads competed over a 5,000-meter course.
Michael Schaefer led the Panthers in the boys’ race, taking seventh overall in a time of 16 minutes, 51. 16 seconds. Austin Schroepfer was not far behind, finishing 19th in 17:32.63.

Girls' soccer nets second win

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team opened the regular season with a tie and a win.  On Thursday, Oct. 8, after two more ties and nine losses, the Panthers were finally able to celebrate win No. 2.
GSL closed out its regular-season with a 2-0 victory at Jordan. It was the first shutout of the year for the Panthers and the first clean sheet for GSL freshman goalkeeper Destiney Exsted. Scoring statistics were not available.

Lady Panthers closing in on conference championship

With another three-game sweep in its lone match last week, the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team continued its march towards the Wright County Conference West title. The Panthers proved to be rude guests to the Royals on Friday, Oct. 9, thumping their hosts 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 to improve to 20-4 overall and 5-0 in WCC West play.

Panthers snag top section seed despite defeat

A 7-6 loss to Litchfield on Thursday, Oct. 8 left the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team facing the prospect of losing out on a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Section 2AAA Tournament.
However, that loss, GSL’s first to the Dragons since 2005, proved of little consequence as the closest contender to that top seed – Providence Academy – also lost the final game of its regular season the very next night.
