Petersen to be a Maverick

With the stroke of a pen, a Panther stated his intention to become a Maverick.

Teddy Petersen, Glencoe-Silver Lake senior and multi-sport standout signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 11 to attend Minnesota State University, Mankato next year and play baseball for the Mavericks.

“The biggest thing for me was to find the best fit academically and the feel of the university,” Petersen said. “(Mankato) just felt comfortable and they have a very good baseball program with a great tradition.”

Several Panthers honored by conference

A bevy of Glencoe-Silver Lake student-athletes were honored for their competitive efforts and achievements this past autumn as 14 Panthers were named all-conference and another 11 were awarded with all-conference honorable mention laurels.

The section champion GSL boys’ cross country team had three all-conference honorees: Michael Meyer, Michael Schaefer and Austin Schroepfer. Joseph Knudten earned honorable mention.

A morning of scrimmages at Stillwater Area High School on Saturday, Nov. 14, gave the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team its first taste of competition since the Section 2AA final last March.

It was all hands on deck for the Panthers, who began practicing five days earlier, with the squad showing up in force for the trio of competitions with St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie and the host Ponies.
