Daughter for Simons family

Amber and Mike Simons of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Jovie Lynn Simons, born Oct. 29, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Jovie weighed 9 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 211⁄2 inches long. She joins sibling Eden Simons. Grandparents are Patti Simons of Glencoe, Shari and Matt Chan of Renville and Tim and Shelly Collins of Lino Lakes. 

Son born to Palma, Lopez

Teresita de Jesus Palma Carmona and Cesar Lopez of Mexico City announce the birth of their son, Angel Lopez Palma, born Oct. 28, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Angel weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 20 inches long. 

Schuft takes lead at SMSU

Jordan Schuft of Glencoe has stepped into three additional leadership roles at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Schuft is the vice president of the College Democrats Club for the 2015-2016 year. Schuft is also the treasurer and secretary of the DECA club, a group that prepares leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. He will also serve as the chief financial officer for the Eanctus Club, an international student organization to improve communities. 

City of Brownton considers funding options for up to $8 million project

The city of Brownton can probably afford a comprehensive street and utility project, but not much else over the next 20 years.
That was the message David Drown of David Drown Associates had for the Brownton City Council at a workshop session Tuesday, Oct. 27. Drown is the city’s financial consultant.

Arlen R. Randgaard, 63, of Hastings

Arlen Richard Randgaard, 63, of Hastings, formerly of Glencoe, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at his home.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. Twyla Kirkeby was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “You Are Mine” and “Beautiful Savior.”

Duane Frank Hanke, 84, of Glencoe

Duane Frank Hanke, 84, of Glencoe, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at his home. 
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg with the Rev. Donald Andrix officiating. Cheryl Andrix was the organist. Congregational hymns were “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and “Abide With Me.” Special music was “Why Me, Lord?” by Kris Kristofferson.

Connie Carrigan, 51, of Lester Prairie

Connie R. Carrigan, 51, of Lester Prairie, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m., at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. The Rev. Tom C. Rakow will officiate. Interment will follow at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Urn bearers will be Mandy Carrigan and Missy Carrigan.

Mary Louise Buckentin, 62, of Plato

Mary Buckentin, 62, of Plato, died Friday, Oct. 30, at her home. 
Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Roger Eng will officiate. Congregational hymns will be “Broken Vessel (Amazing Grace),” “You Alone” and “Good, Good Father.”

Girls' CC wraps up season at sections

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ cross country team wrapped up its 2015 season with a 16th-place finish at the Section 2A meet in Montgomery on Thrusday, Nov. 29.

Eighth-grader Gia Venier led the youthful Panthers in their second running of the season on the 5,000-meter course at Montgomery Golf Course, placing 64th overall in a time of 22 minutes, 40.5 seconds.

Following Venier in short order was seventh-grader Majkya Metcalf, who took 65th in 22:46. 1.

Lady Panthers' season ends in subsection semis

An exciting and successful campaign that was the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team’s 2015 season came to a close Monday night in a loss to Belle Plaine in the Section 2AA North subsection semifinals.

The Panthers put forth a valiant effort against the Tigers – not only the top-seeded team in the subsection, but also the No. 1-ranked team in Class AA – but could not keep up in the face of their opponent’s ferocious power.
