Girls' hoopsters get first taste of competition

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball program dipped its toe in the pool of competition for the first time this season with a morning of scrimmages at Waconia High School on Saturday, Nov. 21.

“It was a good morning,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “We hadn’t put in our offense yet, but we did a lot of good things defensively. We focused a lot on defense and did some very nice things – got beat up on the boards, which we expected.”

Girls' Basketball Preview: No more 'Mr. Nice Guy'

With four returning starters and one more waiting in the wings, the future may indeed be now for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team.

“It’s pretty great to have all of our starters back, save Zoe, who should be back by the end of January,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said.

“Zoe,” is sophomore forward Zoe Christensen, the Panthers’ power in the paint who is in the final stages of recovery from ACL surgery.

Boys' Basketball Preview: Some assembly required

It’s a whole new ballgame for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team.

The Panthers, who fell one step short of a trip to the state tournament after losing 59-56 to Maple River in the Section 2AA final last March, will look far different when they take to the court for the season opener against Hutchinson on Friday.

“We have a lot of new guys and many, many things to work on,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We’ve lost 90 percent of our scoring and three all-conference players from last year.”
