Silver Lake City Council approves .3% levy increase

The Silver Lake City Council held its annual Truth in Taxation hearing in conjunction with its regular meeting Monday.  
 
The hearing is required by state law to give tax payers the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed tax levy.
 
The final approved 2016 property tax levy was  $473,592, a $1,622 or .3 percent increase over 2015. The levy includes $405,000 for the general fund and $68,592 for debt service.
 

One week into job, Silver Lake police chief submits resignation

After months of interviews and background and reference checks, Kenneth Bradford started duties as the Silver Lake Police Chief on Dec. 7 — and resigned a week later. 
 
Bradford said the position was not a good fit and it would be in the best interest of both the city and himself if he resigned.

Berdina Emma Alma (Sell) Luehring, 98, of Glencoe, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
 
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 20, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night, Holy Night.”
 

Elizabeth Krienke, 81, of Hutchinson

Elizabeth Joyce Krienke, 81, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at CentraCare Health Hospital in Long Prairie.
 
Memorial services were held Friday, Dec. 18, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Jane Holasek was the organist. Congregational hymns were “O Holy Night,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Jesus, Lead On” and “In the Garden.”
