GSL boys' hoop just five seconds from 3-0

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team was just over five seconds away from being 3-0 after three games.

As it is, the Panthers entered this week at 1-2.

“When you lose games that close, one play makes a difference,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “There’s so many ‘what-ifs,’ because even playing as poorly as we have been, we’re still just a play or two from being 3-0.”

Matmen finish fifth at Invite

Not quite dealing with their full complement of matmen due to a variety of reasons, the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team managed to pull off a fifth-place finish while hosting the 10-team Don Hall Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 5.

“It went so and so for our first time out on the mat seeing live competition,” coach Lance Wurm said. “Our conditioning is not quite there yet and we made some mental mistakes that cost us some matches. Hopefully, that is something we can correct and keep moving forward.”

Synergy kick off a season of optimism

Smiles were wide and the kicks were high as the Glencoe-Silver Lake Synergy dance team opened its season with a seventh-place finish in Hutchinson on Saturday, Dec. 5. It’s a season of optimism for the Synergy, and coach Bertina Miller is excited for what’s to come.

Panther girls rebound with first victory

Gymnasts third at Northfield Invite

The Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team kicked off its season with an appearance at Northfield’s “Winter Wonderland” meet on Saturday, Dec. 5. With a somewhat improvised lineup, the Panthers finished third overall by posting a score of 108.3.

“I think as a first meet, we did well,” coach Kim Hahn said. “I did have to do last minute changes for five girls Friday night due to ineligibilities and one out with a whiplash injury.”

GSL was narrowly bested by the host Raiders, who finished with 108.35 points for second place.

Abundant numbers for this year's GSL wrestling program

In spite of beginning the season in a short-staffed manner due to various reasons last weekend, the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling program is boasting some of the best overall numbers in memory.

“The numbers are up, way up, which is great,” coach Lance Wurm said. “We are kind of confused at what to do with such numbers – but that’s a nice problem to have.”
