Hi, my name is Rich, and I’m addicted

“I’m a man and I can change, if I have to … I guess.”
I looked out over the crowd of blank stares. Any fan of PBS’“Red Green” show knows that is the “Men’s Prayer” at Possum Lodge.
Apparently I was at the wrong meeting.
Let me start again.
“Hi, my name is Rich, and I’m a Captain Crunch-aholic.”
“Hi, Rich,” the group responded, but with even more perplexed looks on their faces.

Info coming on building project

To the Editor:
In the upcoming weeks and months ahead, you will be hearing about the proposed building project at Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL). The project’s scope is similar to the one that was narrowly defeated back in 2011.
Unfortunately, the needs of our district have not gone away and the cost has only increased. Back in 2011, the project was an $18.5 million facility. Today, with a few changes to reduce square footage, we will be asking for just over $24 million.

A little less salt on roads could save a lot of money

To the Editor:
A subject that has always haunted me is the process of putting corrosive chemicals on our winter roads. I have never been in favor of it, but can also see the need for it in a reasonable manner.
I have noticed the use of salt has now gone extreme even in outlying counties. No longer is it just the curves and intersections being salted, but every mile of road.

Glencoe City Council approves 30-block Lincoln Park project

After more than three years of planning and designing, the second of a three-phased comprehensive street improvement plan received approval from the Glencoe City Council Monday night on a 4-1 vote. Council Member Allen Robeck voted no.
The reconstruction project involves a 30-block area round Lincoln Park and could begin in late April or early May. The project is expected to be substantially completed in November. The final layer of street bituminous will be completed in June 2016.

The association had its annual meeting and dinner at the Pla-Mor Ballroom Saturday and Douglas, who has been a meteorologist for Twin Cities television stations and the Star Tribune, was the guest speaker.

County Planning Commission gives nod to permit for mining

The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission took an application for a mining conditional use permit that was a bit unusual at its Wednesday, Jan. 28, meeting.
Rather than mining for gravel or sand, brothers Shane and Brett Madsen want to dig up an old demolition landfill in Rich Valley Township, reduce the slope of the property, and restore the land for farming.
“It’s potentially a win-win  proposal,” Zoning Administrator Larry Gasow told the commission.
