Eugenia Lydia Keenan, 95, of Glencoe

Eugenia “Gena” Lydia (Dettman) Keenan, 95, of Glencoe, died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 18, at Church of Peace in Glencoe with the Rev. Joseph Clay officiating. Lynne Reinitz was the organist. Congregational hymns were “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace.”
Honorary urn bearers were Mrs. Keenan’s grandchildren and great-grandchild, Stephanie Zajicek, Jeffery Keenan, Mitchell Keenan, Megan Chrusciel, Benjamin Gramke and Teddy Zajicek.

Ervin ‘Abe’ L. Abram, 92, of Plymouth

Ervin “Abe” L. Abram, 92, of Plymouth, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 11, 2015, at Sunrise of Edina in Edina.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. S, Edina. The visitation will be held at 2 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Private interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Dennis L. Grams, 70, of Gaylord

Dennis Grams, 70, of Gaylord, died Friday, April 17, 2015, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m., at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the Gaylord City Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, April 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Gaylord, and will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joel Henry Teubert, 51, of Glencoe

Joel Henry Teubert, 51, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 20, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist. Song leaders were Shari Templin and Kelly LeCrone, and Jesse Cameron played the bagpipes. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Hosea, Come Back to Me,” “Song of Farewell” and “Amazing Grace.”

Peter Joseph Iten, 79, of Chaska

Peter Joseph Iten, 79, of Chaska, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 2, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Community, 8201 Main St., Chanhassen. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Inurment will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in June.
Peter Iten was born Oct. 5, 1935, in LeSueur, to Elmer and Rosella (Bendzick) Iten. He was one of two children.

Amy Sackett, 90, of Lamberton

Amy Sackett, 90, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in Lamberton.

New windows for Silver Lake Auditorium

Progress continues on improvements to the Silver Lake Auditorium.
Next on the “to-do” list is window replacement. Monday night, the Silver Lake City Council reviewed a proposal for purchase of 22 windows for the auditorium. The cost of the windows will be $4,338.75.
The city staff estimates it will cost around $50, on the very high end, to install and finish each window. It is hoped to have volunteers help to reduce the cost of installation.

Plato Legion honors World War II veterans

There are fewer and fewer living World War II veterans left each year.
The American Legion Post 641, Plato, honored its two living WWII veterans at its annual recognition dinner Saturday, April 11.
Honored were Walter Miller, 94, of Plato and Willard — also known as “Joe” or “Bud” — Meyer, 96, now of Glencoe. Meyer was unable to attend the dinner.
Miller and Meyer have  been members of Post 641 for 68 years, since its inception in 1948.

Brownton bike-a-thon set for Sunday, May 3

The Brownton Fire Department will host the annual bike-a-thon Sunday, May 3.
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are urged to participate by asking friends, relatives and neighbors to sponsor them, either with a specific amount or an amount per mile. Sponsorships can be taken up to the day of the bike-a-thon.
Registration packets consisting of registration, parental consent and pledge forms are available at the Brownton City Office and Security Bank & Trust in Brownton.

Silver Lake bike rodeo set for Saturday, May 2

The Silver Lake Police Department is sponsoring its annual youth bike rodeo Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m., in the Silver Lake City Hall/Auditorium parking lot.
The bike rodeo will include a presentation on bicycle safety as well as an operator course for kids to demonstrate their skills on their bikes. Bikes also will get a safety inspection.
The department also is giving away two bicycles.
The rodeo is open to Silver Lake-area youth. Please bring your bikes and helmets.
