More money for roads and bridges

Both of Minnesota’s parties have rolled out substantial proposals for improving transportation in Minnesota. The DFL is looking at dedicating $10 billion for transportation, the GOP has launched a $7 billion proposal.
So, for once, the parties seem to agree on something: in particular, that Minnesota’s transportation system is in dire need of attention.

How should we value our institutions of education?

To the Editor:
A few weeks ago, I posted a photo on Facebook of a banner that hangs in Glencoe-Silver Lake High School’s cafeteria. The banner hails “Why Do You Go to GSL??? To Learn the Standards!!!”

GOP’s plan prioritizes roads, bridges

Recently, Republicans released the Road and Bridge Act of 2015, a transportation plan that will invest in our roads and bridges and make sure we’re maintaining and improving the quality of our transportation infrastructure for the next 10 years.
Our plan stands in stark contrast to the plan put forward by Gov. Dayton and the Senate DFL, which proposes a minimum 16-cents per gallon gas tax increase that will grow even larger if gas once again goes above $2.50 per gallon.

Moving the Habitat house clarified

To the Editor:
I write on the behalf of Crow River Habitat for Humanity. My hope is that this letter helps clarify specific details surrounding moving our house into Hutchinson, to our lot at the northeast end of Morningside Drive NE.
We anticipate the move to occur on May 14 during daylight hours. The house is to move down Morningside Drive NE and will require that a stop sign, street sign and two street lights be laid down and set back up. This will be completed by the city of Hutchinson.

First blood drive of 2015 set for April 29

To the Editor:
It’s that time of year:  Spring is springing; grass is greening; birds are nesting;  trees are budding; flowers are poking out of the earth; and the first Glencoe Community Blood Drive of 2015 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at the Glencoe City Center Ballroom from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The American Red Cross has set our goal at 122 units for this blood drive.
