Good Friday cross walk

Section champs hoping for repeat

Defending their WCC title

Continued improvement is name of the game for boys’ golf team

With the members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys golf team looking to improve and refine their game this season, one key victory has already been achieved – practicing outside before the end of March.
With the snow having mostly receded by the first day of Spring, the Panthers were already getting out and practicing on the links at Glencoe Country Club. It’s a far cry from the last few seasons, when winter’s icy grip kept the team hitting balls into a net inside the high school gym.

Strength in numbers for boys’ track and field team

Buoyed by a program-best 46 members in ninth- through 12th-grade, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ track and field team looks to continue its strong tradition and build on successes of the past.
“We’ve been fortunate to have very good track teams here,” coach Josh Metcalf said. “Kids keep coming out and our numbers keep improving every year.”

Girls squad ready to roll on track and in the field

They’re younger and deeper – and there are more of them. The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls track and field team has entered the 2015 season with numbers in the upper 30s, leading to more hands on deck to compete across a broad spectrum of events.
Youth will be served this season, as only five seniors dot the roster.

Girls golfers are optimistic about challenging top teams

It’s been mostly sunny this spring for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls golf team. That forecast applies not only to the early-season weather the Panthers enjoyed as they prepared for the season, but also the outlook for the 2015 campaign.
“We’re really excited this year,” coach Scott Eckhoff said. “We have the entire team coming back. Our strength this season should be our experience.”

Conference champs out for even greater laurels

Returning the bulk of last year’s conference championship-winning squad, the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team looks to be a strong bet to defend their initial Wright County West title and perhaps garner even greater laurels.
“We’ve got a great and experienced group of girls,” coach Steve Davis said. “They work very hard and make each other better.”

Section champs return to the field

When we last saw the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team, the Panthers were putting the finishing touches on a 19-5 season by finishing third in the 2014 Class AA state tournament.
It was GSL’s first trip to state in five years and the squad faces a difficult road in its quest to repeat as Section 2AA champions.
