Recently, Republicans released the Road and Bridge Act of 2015, a transportation plan that will invest in our roads and bridges and make sure we’re maintaining and improving the quality of our transportation infrastructure for the next 10 years.
Our plan stands in stark contrast to the plan put forward by Gov. Dayton and the Senate DFL, which proposes a minimum 16-cents per gallon gas tax increase that will grow even larger if gas once again goes above $2.50 per gallon.

It’s that time of year:  Spring is springing; grass is greening; birds are nesting;  trees are budding; flowers are poking out of the earth; and the first Glencoe Community Blood Drive of 2015 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at the Glencoe City Center Ballroom from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The American Red Cross has set our goal at 122 units for this blood drive.

“I don’t think in all my life I’ve cried as many tears as I did yesterday,” Mabel Ehrenberg said Monday morning.
That’s saying something, because all of Mabel’s life encompasses 103 years.
And, fortunately, Mabel’s tears weren’t of sadness, but of joy: on Easter Sunday, Mabel — a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care — was reunited with her daughter, Diane Sellnow, whom she has not seen for five years.

McLeod County will take over Glencoe’s recycling program in the first week in May, according to Glencoe City Administrator Mark Larson.
At Monday night’s City Council meeting, Larson asked for the city to “opt out” of its current recycling contract with Waste Management. That contract runs out at the end of the year.
Larson said Waste Management suggested the city opt out because the company “did not want to be in a recycling war” and to eliminate confusion for Glencoe recycling customers.

Students from Glencoe-Silver Lake High School’s “Principles of Engineering” class had the chance to show off the fruits of their month’s labors when they demonstrated a number of material sorters to guests on Monday, March 30.
Four groups of students had spent the previous three weeks planning and building intricate sorters to separate metal marbles from wooden ones. The project was intended to create the type of sorting system that would separate differing items at a recycling plant.
