GSL takes second, third at Mound

Decent days for competing have been at a premium for the Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams, but the Panthers got a honey of an evening on Monday, April 27 and took advantage.
GSL traveled to Mound to compete in a Wright County Conference quadrangular meet against host Mound Westonka, Delano and New Prague. For once, the teams were greeted with sunny skies, still winds and warm temperatures – all of which had eveded them for the past couple weeks.

Brewers open season with a split

Optimism abounded as the Glencoe Brewers amateur baseball team commenced the 2015 season with a split of its first two games over the weekend. While the squad remains shorthanded in the short term as several team members finish up their spring schooling, the squad expects to swell to a size not recently seen this summer.
“Last year, we averaged about 13-14 guys in the dugout,” manager Stephen Wiblemo said. “This year, we could be upwards of 20 guys.”

Blue Jays bash St. Boni

The Plato Blue Jays amateur baseball team wanted to get its season off on the right foot. Mission accomplished.
With an 11-0 blanking of host St. Bonifacious, the Blue Jays looked every bit the part of a force to be reckoned with this summer – even if many of the team regulars had not yet re-joined the ranks.
“We didn’t have our full team,” manager Adam Dammann said. “The nice thing was, we had a lot of younger newcomers doing the job.”

Bruins remain undefeated

The Brownton Bruins took advantage of a struggling New Germany bullpen Sunday afternoon for a 19-5 win over the Dutchmen in seven innings.
Dutchmen starter Steve Mielke and relievers Brian Meyer and Adam Lehrke gave up a total of 15 earned runs on 22 hits.
The first two innings didn’t offer much indication of the coming blow-out.

Panthers rolling on the basepaths

It was quite a week for the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team as the Panthers socked away a trio of impressive victories.
GSL remained in the thick of the Wright County Conference West race by topping three circuit opponents in both intricate and dominant manner. The Panthers sandwiched a 7-0 blanking of Orono with a pair of close victories – 2-1 at Mound Westonka and 8-5 at Holy Family Catholic.
