Jail project back on agenda June 23

Board of Commissioners will take up its proposed jail expansion and courthouse security plans in a workshop session Tuesday, June 23. The workshop has been scheduled for a day in which no regular meeting has been scheduled. We all have that special group of friends

Those who are truly blessed in life have at least one — that friend or group of friends whom, although you may not see them often, are still a part of the fabric of your daily lives.
One of mine is a golf foursome that started several years ago, in that casual way in which so many friendships start.
My friend Laura was a member of a bankers association that, in the summer, preceded its monthly meeting with a golf outing. She put together a foursome of two co-workers and me, as a guest, several years ago.

Flag retirement planned June 14

To the Editor:
The birthday of the American flag is June 14. It is a day to be proud of the Stars and Stripes.
The red in our flag symbolizes sacrifice and courage, and its white reflects purity of purpose, and the stars in the blue field represent unity of efforts by the states. Those are powerful attributes through which all of our citizens have made this country free and powerful. That is what our flag symbolizes today.

Remember to fly your flag on Flag Day, June 14

To the Editor:
June 14, 2015, is Flag Day. Displaying the flag is the privilege of every citizen of this country.
Remember to display your flag. You can display the U.S. flag proudly; it is an indicator of national unity as well as a sign of respect. We need to be reminded of our obligation to preserve our freedoms for generations to come. Citizens, fly your flag on June 14 and every day if you can.
A few guidelines regarding our flag are:
• Replace a flag when it is badly weathered.

County looks at County Road 54 fixes

McLeod County commissioners took a first step to fix the poor road conditions on County Road 54 between County Road 87 and County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 7 near Lake Marion.
A new road resurfacing process used on the four-mile stretch of road last year did not work out and ways to improve the road quality have been sought ever since.
