Silver Lake Council reviews survey results

The city of Silver Lake conducted a citywide survey in September 2014. The city’s planning commission hand delivered 358 surveys to city residents; 140 were returned.
The data has been compiled and the planning commission met to discuss the results. The commission’s discussion and survey results were presented to the City Council at its regular meeting Monday, June 15.

Stewart family loses home to fire

A Stewart family is homeless after a house fire on Tuesday, June 9.
According to Stewart Fire Chief Dean Nelson, the fire was discovered at about 9:45 a.m. by homeowner Jim Zalomsky, who had just arrived home from running an errand. No one else was at the residence when the fire was discovered.
“He opened the garage door and saw the smoke,” said Nelson.

Names sought for new veterans memorial

A Glencoe Area Veterans Memorial is being planned, according to organizers, and names are being sought for placement on the two monuments that have been purchased.
The memorial is for any veteran that has passed away, living veterans in the area, veterans who have recently moved to the area, and those who have moved away since their service time. Next of kin of the deceased may provide the appropriate information.

Jerome A. Ewert, 95, of Buffalo Lake

Jerome A. Ewert, 95, of Buffalo Lake, formerly of Stewart, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 12, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart with the Rev. Gerald Meidl officiating. Amanda Hendrickson was the organist, and song leaders were Amanda Hendrickson and Grace Maiers. 

Willard ‘Bud’ Meier, 96, of Glencoe

Willard “Bud” Meier, 96, of Glencoe, formerly of Plato, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.

Sarah Elsie Terlinden, 97, of Glencoe

Sarah Elsie (Boesche) Terlinden, 97, of Glencoe, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Ronald Mathison officiated. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist RaNaye Odegaard sang “Asleep in Jesus,” and soloist Jennifer Becker sang “The Lord’s My Shepherd.” Congregational hymns were “For All The Saints” and “Abide With Me.”

Son born to Donley family

Ryan and Amber (Ramige) Donley of Victoria announce the birth of their son, Benjamin Thomas Donley, born June 6, 2015, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia. Benjamin weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 181⁄2 inches long at birth. He is welcomed home by big brother William, 2. Grandparents are Bill and Joyce Ramige of Glencoe and Pam and the late Chris Donley of Fridley.

Son born to Olivia couple

Matt and Amanda Kottke of Olivia announce the birth of their son, Waylon Matthew Kottke, born June 5, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Waylon weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long. Grandparents are Joyce Peterson of Brownton, Alan Peterson of Marshall and Lottie Kottke of Glencoe. Great-grandparents are Norman and Marjorie Peterson of Hector.

Girl for Silver Lake couple

Tyler Helland and Terri Schuft-Helland of Silver Lake announce the birth of their daughter, Etta Gloria-Jo Helland, born June 5, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Etta weighed 9 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 20 inches long. She joins siblings McCoy and Adderley. Her grandparents are Ben and Gloria Schuft of Stewart and Ken and Denise Helland of LeCenter.

Jesus Fidencio Rodriguez and Jasmin Elizet Pedraza of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Jax Angel Rodriguez, born June 4, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Jax weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 18 inches long. He joins brother Jadan Jesus Rodriguez. Grandparents are Alberto Pedraza Sr. and Chelsea Pedraza of Glencoe and San Juana Reyes and Tito Rodriguez of Eagle Pass, Texas.
