Crowd of 2 turns out for Brownton public hearing

Members of the Brownton City Council and its consulting engineer were both surprised and disappointed that only two people turned out for its public hearing on its proposed multi-million dollar improvement project Tuesday night, May 26.
John Rodeberg of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), the city’s engineering firm, said that low turnouts at such hearings are not unusual, but they typically draw more than a couple of people.

Dahlke recipient of AgStar scholarship

The AgStar Fund for Rural America, a corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, announces that it awarded Matthew Dahlke, a 2015 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School, a $1,000 educational scholarship.

Dahlke plans to attend Alexandria Technical and Community College, pursuing a career in marine and small engine mechanics. He is the son of Doug and Patty Dahlke of Glencoe.

Schuth graduates May 10

Ryan Schuth, son of Ron and Sue Schuth of Plato, participated in the commencement ceremony at St. John’s University on May 10 in Collegeville. He is a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts in biology.

Wendlandt graduates May 9

Alyson Wendlandt, daughter of Lisa and Steven Meier of Glencoe and Brent Wendlandt, participated in the commencement ceremony at the College of St. Benedict on May 9 in St. Joseph. She is a candidate to receive a bachelor of arts degree in accounting.

Miller named to Bethany list

Cailtin Miller, daughter of Gregory and Michelle Miller of Plato, was named to the spring dean’s list at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. She is a 2012 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School. In order to be named to the dean’s list, a student must carry at least 14 academic credits and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Johnson-Rabbett graduates

Brianna Johnson-Rabbett, daughter of Becky Johnson and Kevin Rabbett, granddaughter of James “Bud” and Helen Johnson, recently graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School with a medical doctor degree. Johnson-Rabbett received multiple scholarships and honors during her time at the university. She also was selected for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She will continue her training with an internal medicine residency in Minneapolis this June. Her future plans include practice as an endocrinologist.

Area students on St. Cloud list

Courtney Schroepfer of Glencoe and Riley Burgstahler of Stewart were among the 1,305 students who were named to the spring semester dean’s list at St. Cloud State University. Schroepfer is enrolled in the school of education and is majoring in early childhood education; Burgstahler is enrolled in the school of health and human services and is majoring in health and physical education.

Rudy receives theatre award

Samantha Rudy, Glencoe, was recognized by the Department of Theatre and Dance at its annual players banquet at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., on May 1. The banquet included the presentation of departmental, technical, acting and scholarship awards. Rudy, daughter of Deb and Mark Rudy of Glencoe, received the Theatre Ambassador Award. She is a junior at UCM, majoring in musical theatre and is a 2012 graduate of Perpich Center for Arts Education High School.

Victor William Donnay, 90, of Faribault

Victor William Donnay, 90, of Faribault, formerly of Glencoe, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at District One Hospital in Faribault.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, May 29, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. The Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiated. Sue Mielke was the organist and Shari Templin was the song leader. Musical selections were “Be Not Afraid,” “Gift of Finest Wealth,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Ave Maria” and “How Great Thou Art.

Arlene Lillian Seaton, 92, of Glencoe

Arlene Lillian (Dittmer) Seaton, 92, of Glencoe, formerly of Denver, Colo., died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, with the Rev. Brian Brosz officiating. He also was the guitarist. Congregational hymns were “In the Garden,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
Her family served as casket bearers. Interment was in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Plato.
