GSL staff, supporters honored at year-end recognition program

Friday was full of end-of-the year recognitions at Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) Schools, starting with a staff appreciation breakfast in the morning and ending with commencement in the evening.
GSL Superintendent Chris Sonju honored many following Friday morning’s breakfast.
First came “years of service” recognition, which included the following district employees:

Mariscal joins Chronicle staff

Rebecca Mariscal joined The McLeod County Chronicle staff as a staff writer, effective June 1, according to Editor Lori Copler.
Mariscal’s assignments will include the Glencoe City Council, Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board, feature stories and Glencoe-Silver Lake school activities, among others.
Mariscal is most recently from Savage. Before moving here, Rebecca lived in four other states including California, Utah, Arizona and Idaho.

Panthers advance to sectional baseball final

A 10-8 defeat of Albert Lea in the Section 2AA winner’s bracket final on Saturday, May 30 has the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team within one win of returning to the state tournament.

“We are very happy with what we have done,” coach Dean Schwirtz said. “But this team is always focused on the next game and we still have work left to do.”

It was a perfect morning for baseball – or just about anything, for that matter – as the Panthers and Tigers took the field at Veterans Park in St. Peter.

Brewers drop a pair

A 4-3 defeat at Dassel-Cokato on Saturday, May 30 pushed the Glencoe Brewers’ losing skid to four games heading into a six-game homestand. The Brewers dropped both of their contests on the latter end of last week, previously falling 10-6 at Waconia on Thursday, May 28.

Glencoe suffered an 8-1 setback at Waconia last Thursday, mustering up just four hits against a trio of Lakers pitchers. Brody Bratsch recorded two of the hits, with Josh Kraby and Stephen Wiblemo notching one hit apiece.
