Motorcycle deaths up 56% within a year

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Motorcycle Safety Center reported last week that motorcycle deaths in Minnesota are up 56 percent from the same period last year.
As of June 19, 25 motorcycle fatalities were reported by the DPS. Since then, a motorcycle death was reported in Sibley County, and a motorcycle driver and a passenger were killed on Interstate 90 near Jackson.
And those are just the fatalities. It seems that motorcycle accidents with injuries also are on the increase.

A roller coaster ride of a different kind

As animals we have natural instincts that tell us what to do, and not do, in order to stay alive. As humans, we love to ignore these instincts and do the craziest things possible. Which is why I found myself 13,000 feet in the air, strapped to a stranger and a piece of canvas and not only willing, but excited to jump.

Put simply: our broken roads are broke!

By Christopher N. Shoff
As the 2015 session finally came to a close last week, the Legislature was once again unable to come to agreement on a comprehensive transportation bill. This has become an annual disappointment for the members of the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC).
Freeborn County Engineer Sue Miller’s 7-year-old daughter might have said it best, “Our Broken Roads are Broke!” Out of the mouths of babes comes something so profound, and such a simple summary of the situation. “Our Broken Roads are Broke!”

Brownton man fatally injured in crash
