Brownton tops Plato in cross-county battle

Early bragging rights along Highway 212 belong to the Brownton Bruins, who remained undefeated on the season by means of a 5-2 win at the Plato Blue Jays on Sunday, May 31.

Brownton took a 2-1 lead after the first inning with Ryan Grams and Matt Schwichtenberg scoring for the Bruins in the top of the frame. Matt Odegaard doubled and was driven home by Chris Odegaard for Plato’s opening-inning tally.

Trap wraps regular season

The Glencoe-Silver Lake trapshooting team wrapped up its regular season last week, finishing sixth in the Class 4A – Conference 4 standings. The Panthers finished Week 5 with 3,194.5 points, giving them 21,353.5 on the spring.

GSL came in just 201.5 points behind fifth-place Cretin-Derham Hall in the final point tally. The Panthers finished 799 points ahead of Sartell. McGregor-Aitkin-Cromwell won the conference with 35,806 points.

GSL sending five to state track and field meet

Glencoe-Silver Lake will be represented by four boys and one girl at the state Class A track and field meet this weekend after Panthers competitors qualified in four total events at the Section 2A championship meet in Mankato on Saturday, May 29.

In the sectional team competition, the 12-man GSL boys contingent finished in a three-way tie for eighth with 41 points, while the 10–member Panthers girls squad placed 10th with 40 points.
