Brewers take two, lose two

The Glencoe Brewers snapped a six-game losing streak with a pair of weekend wins to keep hopes of a .500 regular-season finish within sight.
After dropping a pair of mid-week games to Jordan and Winsted, the Brewers picked up road victories at Mayer and St. Boni to give the team a 10-13 overall record heading into the final six games of the pre-playoff schedule.

Blue Jays split weekly set

The Plato Blue Jays narrowly missed out on a chance to catch the Brownton Bruins atop the Crow River Valley League (CRVL) standings after falling 3-2 at Brownton on Wednesday, July 8.
However, the Blue Jays stayed right on the Bruins’ tail as both teams met with opposing outcomes in their respective weekend follow ups.

Bruins edge Plato, fall short to Carver

Fans can always expect a good game when the Plato Blue Jays and Brownton Bruins meet up on the field, and they got their money’s worth Wednesday, July 8, at Barney Tadsen Field in Brownton.
The Bruins scored two runs in the first inning, which were tied up by Plato in the fifth, before Brownton finally scored the winning run in the seventh for a 3-2 victory.

Playoff time for 5102

With four wins over its final five regular-season matchups, the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 baseball team is locked and loaded for the playoffs, which begin this week.
Four victories against neighboring opponents were only mildly tarnished by a 5-4 loss at Maple Plain on Monday, July 6.

Legion seeded second for third district playoffs

The Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team went 3-2 in the final week of its regular season and earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Third District, Division II playoffs.
Plato finished the pre-postseason schedule with a 12-6 overall record, 9-3 in league play and is slated to open districts against Zumbrota-Mazeppa at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Lonsdale.
