Secrecy reigns in stadium naming rights

Last month, the Minnesota Vikings and U.S. Bank announced that the bank would have naming rights to the new Vikings stadium currently under construction.
What wasn’t revealed was how much U.S. Bank paid for those rights, which gives it the opportunity to plaster its logo on everything from tickets to the stadium itself. Speculation is that the bank paid upwards of $220 million. A U.S. Bank rep told the Star Tribune that estimate is on the high side, but would not disclose how much was actually paid.

In court, the accuser almost always wins

I’m a law-and-order guy. I’ve always told my children that if they ever had to go to court, they are innocent until proven guilty. It’s in our U.S. Constitution.
A McLeod County District Court judge recently said the same thing when my son opted to fight two alleged traffic violations. If you think the words of the U.S. Constitution mean what they say, then you’re a darn fool.

Pola-Czesky Days start up Friday night

Silver Lake’s annual Pola-Czesky Days will be this weekend starting Friday night and continuing through Sunday night.
The event kicks off, literally, with a kickball tournament at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the softball field. Toilet bowl races will also take place at the same time downtown. After the races Mitch Gordon and the Unleaded Band will take the stage for a street dance and beer garden music near the auditorium.

McLeod County will hire two new child protection workers

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners agreed at its Tuesday, July 21, meeting to hire two additional child protection employees for its Social Services department — with some reservation.
The two positions will be paid for through a two-year grant from the state of Minnesota in the amount of $161,600. The hesitancy on the part of the commissioners came because funding after two years is uncertain.

County Board hires company to reclaim Tagus Avenue surface

A prime-and-seal project on Tagus Avenue near Lake Marion will be pulled up and restored to gravel following action at the McLeod County Board meeting July 21.
The project, which tried to incorporate some newer technology to create a blacktop-like surface on the road, failed to hold up to traffic. As the surface broke up, it became difficult to travel upon.
County Highway Engineer John Brunkhorst presented the board with quotes for removing the surface, with the lowest of three quotes coming from Road Reclaimers in the amount of $19,101.
