Glencoe City Council: Lincoln Park, other work moving along

The Glencoe City Council heard updates on the city’s three big summer projects at the regular Monday night meeting.

The Council voted to accept the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant for the Glencoe Municipal Airport taxiway construction project as soon as it has been officially awarded. Though U.S. Congressman Collin Peterson announced the grant was approved, it has not officially been awarded to the city yet.

Trailblazer to reimburse local share overages to McLeod, Sibley counties

McLeod and Sibley county representatives on the Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board got some good news Thursday morning — their counties will be reimbursed a good portion of their “local share” from 2014.
According to Trailblazer Transit Executive Director Gary Ludwig, McLeod County is set to be reimbursed $105,483, while Sibley County will be reimbursed $52,741.
The local share is what the counties contribute to the service above what is financed through the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and revenue from fares.

GRHS’ Level III Trauma Hospital designation renewed by state

Glencoe Regional Health Services’ (GRHS) designation as a Level III Trauma Hospital was renewed by the Minnesota Department of Health on June 16. GRHS voluntarily participated in the intense designation process, which included an outside review of its resources and capabilities to care for trauma patients. GRHS met all standards for commitment, clinical and equipment resources, and staff training. The designation is valid for three years.

5 injured in broadside crash Saturday night

Five people were injured Saturday at about 8 p.m. in a broadside crash at Highway 7 and Babcock Avenue near Lester Prairie.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 17-year-old female was southbound on Babcock Avenue, stopped at a stop sign, and then pulled out onto Highway 7 into the path of a westbound 1994 Ford pickup pulling a camper trailer. The Pontiac was struck broadside by the pickup.

Bonderman, Gould in ‘The Fantasticks’

The Hutchinson Theatre Company is set to present “The Fantasticks,” the world’s longest-running Tony Award-winning musical.
Among the cast members are Rachel Bonderman as Luisa and Val Gould as Henry. Both are from Glencoe.

GRHS donates AED to local pool

To support its mission of providing support for community-based health initiatives, the GRHS (Glencoe Regional Health Services) Foundation recently donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the Glencoe Aquatic Center.
“The foundation is proud to support our communities, and we’re happy to provide this life-saving equipment to the aquatic center,” said Orville Trettin, president of the GRHS Foundation’s Board of Directors. “By making this gift, we’re able to fulfill our mission as an organization.”

Accident near Arlington claims life of 37-year-old

An Eagle Lake man died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle accident south of Arlington Saturday at about 10:40 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Shawn M. Lang, 37, of Eagle Lake, was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera CL southbound on Sibley County Road 9 and failed to stop at the stop sign at the Highway 19 intersection, and proceeded onto the highway, where the Oldsmobile was struck by a 2007 Infiniti G35, which was eastbound on Highway 19. Both vehicles ended up in the southeast ditch.
