Registrations set for Lions football team

Registration for the 2015 Silver Lake Lions fifth- and sixth-grade football program begins Monday, Aug. 3, at the Hutchinson Recreation Center. All players should be signed up by Aug. 19.
The Hutchinson Recreation Center hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rainfall does little to dampen music event

Rain forced over 220 people inside the Silver Lake Auditorium rather than gathering in the Legion Park to enjoy the weekly music. Lowell Schubert and friends, Nancy Buckentine, and brother and sister, Nancy Brooks and Bob Schroeder, provided music. Lunch was served by the Silver Lake Women’s Club.

Silver Lake senior citizens club meets

The Silver Lake Senior Citizens Club met on Monday, July 13 with 27 members present.
The July birthday was Margaret Benz and July anniversaries included Clarence and Ann Jancewski, married for 57 years. 
A get well card was sent to Richard Kosek. 

Pola-Czesky Days kiddie parade Aug. 1

Entries are being sought for the Pola-Czesky Days kiddie parade, set for Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m., starting at the Silver Lake Auditorium.
Register in front of the auditorium starting at 9:30 a.m.
Categories are Storybook/Cartoon, Movies/TV and Original. Children up to 12 years old may enter. First and second awards will be given in each category.

Silver Lake Council asks staff to cut $40,000 from 2016 budget

The Silver Lake City Council took its first look at the 2016 city budget and asked the administration and department heads to make some cuts at its regular meeting on Monday, July 20.
The budget show expenses and revenue of $782,129, a 10.19 percent increase over the 2015 budget.
At that amount, the 2016 tax levy would increase 5.18 percent to $496,437.90.

Stewart City Council to review fire service contract language

The Stewart City Council is meeting in special session tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. to discuss its fire protection contract with area townships.
Following that meeting, the Council will meet jointly with officials from the townships it serves. That meeting is set for 7 p.m.

Bird Island man dies in accident near Hector

On Friday, July 17, at 3:04 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a two vehicle crash at the intersection of 850th Avenue and 510th Street in Brookfield Township. The crash was located approximately seven miles northeast of Hector.
