3rd-annual ‘The Sanctuary’ retreat planned for Sept. 12

Team Jenkins is sponsoring its third-annual “The Sanctuary” health and wellness day Sept. 12 at REMAX Homes on 10th Street E in Glencoe.
In addition to providing participants with a wealth of information regarding healthy living options, the day is a fundraiser for the Tim Orth Foundation, which supports children with medical needs.

Education department releases MCAs, junior high earns below average scores

The Minnesota Department of Education released the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) results and though the Glencoe Silver Lake School District received above-average and average scores at the elementary and high school level, the district’s junior high received low scores comparatively. 
The MCAs are statewide tests that measure students’ progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards. 

County Board orders repairs for County Ditch 20 near Hutch

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners approved spending up to $525,000 to replace about 9,500 feet of tile in County Ditch 20, located near Hutchinson between Highway 15 and County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 12.
The decision came after a public hearing during the Board’s regular meeting Tuesday morning, Aug. 18.

‘Geek Meets’ set to gauge interest for tech centers

RS Fiber Cooperative will hold a series of networking events to teach those in attendance about technology. The series will be known as “RS Geek Meets.”
The events will be held in the ten RS Fiber Cooperative communities. 

Gruenhagen encourages applications for grants for broadband services

State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, is encouraging cities, counties, businesses, nonprofits, and other eligible applicants to consider applying for a grant to continue the expansion of Minnesota’s broadband infrastructure. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Sep. 15. The grants are available as a part of $10.58 million for the Border-to-Border Broadband Development Grant Program approved by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Dayton in June.

Noah Lee Wylie, 3 months, Glencoe

Noah Lee Wylie, 3 months, of Glencoe died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. 
Celebration of life was held Sunday, Aug. 23, at Elks Park in Hutchinson with a balloon release. 
Noah Lee Wylie was born May 11, 2015 at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe. He was the son of Tory Wylie and Angela Ulrich and the perfect addition to  their family. 

John ‘Jack’ Noga, 87, Homer Glen, Ill.

John “Jack” C. Noga Jr., 87, of Homer Glen, Illinois, formerly of Glencoe, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at Foster G. McGaw Hospital - Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois.

John Emil Kruse, 95, of New Ulm

John Emil Kruse, 95, of New Ulm, died peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with the Rev. Grant Bode officiating. Full military honors were provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard following the service. Burial was Thursday, Aug. 20, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Margaret Barnum, 90, Crosby

Margaret Elizabeth Barnum, 90, of Crosby died on Aug. 20, 2015 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. 
Services are being planned in Glencoe.
Margaret Elizabeth Barnum was born on Feb. 18, 1925 in Minneapolis to Richard and Rose Ebner. She was a Robbinsdale High School graduate, class of 1942.

Kohout — Krauth

Jayme Kohout and Taylor Krauth of Glencoe announce their engagement.
Parents of the couple are Deb and Dave Kohout and John and Donna Krauth, all of Glencoe.
Jayme Kohout is a 2009 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School and a 2014 graduate of Minnesota State University - Mankato. She is currently a health educator at Sibley County Public Health and Human Services.
