27 Silver Lake senior citizens met on Aug. 10

The Silver Lake Senior Citizens Club met Monday, Aug. 10, with 27 regular members present and two new members, Tina Dolezal and Father Paul Schumacher.
 
August birthdays: Bernie Kaczmarek, Richard Kosek, LeRoy Penas and Ron Mickolichek.
 
August anniversaries: Huebert and Margaret Schermann, 56 years.
 
Get well cards were sent to Gary Kaczmarek, Donald Benz, Aggie Fiecke and Father Paul Schumacher.

20 Brownton seniors met on Monday

wenty Brownton senior citizens met Monday, Aug. 10, at the Brownton Community Center.
 
Cards were played after the meeting with the following winners — 500, Gladys Rickert, first, and Norma Albrecht, second; pinochle, Ruby Streich, first, and Ordell Klucas, second; and sheephead, Elmer Maass, first, and Lil Lindeman, second.
 
Ordella Schmidt won the door prize. Deloris Rennecke served refreshments.
 

Brownton Lions name pedal pull winners

The Brownton Lions Club hosted a kids’ pedal-tractor pull Friday night in conjunction with its annual corn feed. Fifty-four pullers competed in eight age categories. Placing were, by age category:
 
4-year-olds: Annelise Zipf, Brownton, first; Eloise Guhl, West Branch, second; and Owen Conklin, Glencoe, third.
 
5-year-olds: Leyton Yerks, Brownton, first; Charlie Nelson, Brownton, second; and Ty Winterfeldt, Brownton, third.
 

Brownton City Council rescinds decisions on carports, utilities, rental

The Brownton City Council spent a good chunk of a well-over-3-hour Aug. 4 meeting changing decisions it had made at its July meeting.
 
Those decisions were made in regard to providing water and sewer service to a property outside the city limits, the use of canvas carports and the renting of the community center to a group that wants to conduct religious services there.

City of Brownton slowly adding to general fund cash reserves

The city of Brownton’s cash position is a “bit on the low side,” but is slowly building back up after capital expenditures made in 2011.
Paul Harvego of Conway, Dueth & Schmiesing (CDS) presented the 2014 audit report at the City Council’s Aug. 4 meeting.
 

Stewart City Council declines to purchase a street sweeper

The Stewart City Council decided not to purchase a newer street sweeper at its meeting Monday night.
 
City maintenance supervisor Matt Maiers said the city’s current sweeper, a 1991 Elgin Pelican, needs about $4,500 in repair, and presented quotes on four newer, but used, sweepers. The quotes ranged from $32,000 to $37,500.
 

Daughter for Cronin, Berres

Valerie Cronin and Mathew Berres Jr. of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Avery Kathryn Berres, born Aug. 7, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Avery weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Ruth and Robert Cronin of Virginia and Alice Berres of Benson.

Tashia and Devin Nicholson of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Everett Dallas Nicholson, born Aug. 3, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Everett weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He joins his siblings Norah and Iris. Grandparents are Dallas and Christine Smid of Litchfield, Carol and Brad Eggersgluess of Glencoe and Alan and Carla Nicholson of Ellendale. 

Girl for Galvan, Burkstrand

Alexi Galvan and Derrick Burkstrand of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Fayth Everlie Burkstrand, born Aug. 2, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Fayth weighed 10 pounds and was 22 inches long. She joins siblings Nevaeha, Gracie and Jaycee. Grandparents are Angela Lenz of Hutchinson, Holly Reyes of Glencoe and Jaun Herrera of Glencoe. 

Stepien family welcomes boy

Stacia and John Stepien of Arlington announce the birth of their son, Ty Lawrence Stepien, born Aug. 1, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Ty weighed 9 pounds and was 211⁄2 inches long. He is welcomed home by sibling Reed. Grandparents are Kurt and Laurie Becker of Gaylord and Bob and Clarine Stepien of Glencoe.
