GRHS welcomes new internal medicine doctor

Shoeb Mohammed, M.D., an internal medicine physician, recently joined the medical staff at Glencoe Regional Health Services (GRHS). He sees patients at the Glencoe clinic five days a week and also serves on a team of physicians who manage the care of hospitalized patients. 
 
Dr. Mohammed focuses on preventing, diagnosing and treating a broad scope of medical conditions in adult patients.
 

Glencoe native retires from the U.S. Air Force

U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Monson, a Glencoe native, celebrated his retirement on July 6 at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. 
 
Monson was the director of Budget Programs and Integration and deputy assistant  secretary for Budget of the U.S. Air Force. He and his team were responsible for the integration of the Air Force budget. 
 

New pediatrician joins Hutchinson Health team

Hutchinson Health’s newest pediatrician, Dr. Tiffany Trenda, loves helping children get well and stay well. 
 
She has generously shared her talents in many capacities, including serving as a volunteer pediatrician in medically underserved communities of Nicaragua and El Salvador. Her love of different cultures, especially Latin America, helps her relate to children and adults from all areas.
 

Bradford accepts SL chief position

The Silver Lake City Council held a special meeting on Friday evening, Aug. 21. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Police Chief candidate Kenneth Bradford and negotiate an employment agreement.
 
Mayor Bruce Bebo, council members Nolan Johnson and Ken Merrill were present. Council member Josh Mason was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. City Clerk Kerry Venier and Police Chief Forrest Henriksen were also present.

Former President Jimmy Carter, now 90, announced this past week that he has been diagnosed with cancer. Starting out as skin cancer (melanoma), the cancer metastasized to his liver, and now to his brain.
 

On voting … and not voting

The campaigning for next year’s elections is starting to draw more attention, and with it comes a focus on voters and their mood. Which is all well and good, but it leaves out of the equation one large bloc of citizens: people who are eligible to vote, but don’t.
 
Over the years, a fair number of people I’ve encountered have confessed that they do not vote — and I often surprise them by pressing them on why they don’t. They give a multitude of reasons.
 

County should focus on fixing roads

To the Editor:
 
Why is it that McLeod County can build a new DOT Building, tar roads to county parks, help pay for taring Luce Line Trail, buy new cars and pick-ups and equipment every year but they have the worst roads in Minnesota, and do nothing about it.
 

Where’s the outrage over Planned Parenthood?

It is amazing that everyone knows about Cecil the lion and is outraged by his death. And yet no one seems to care about the thousands of innocent babies aborted at the butcher factory of Planned Parenthood each year and the sale of their hearts, feet and eyes, etc., of these innocent unborn babies.
