August 26th

It is time to head back to school again

To the Editor:
It’s hard to believe, but school is starting next week. All of us at GSL are ready for a great school year. I hope this letter finds our district members enjoying the last few days of summer. Just like in years past, summer seems to fly by, but (as the age old saying goes), “Don’t cry that it is over; smile that it happened!” I hope you can reflect upon a wonderful summer filled with many wonderful memories.

Boosters appreciate support, donations

To the Editor:
On behalf of the GSL Booster Club, I would like to thank the local communities for your continued support. Without generous business and personal donations of money, supplies and time, we would not be able to support our GSL district activities.

It is a situation that Robb DeCorsey has not had to deal with very often in his 22 years as Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ tennis coach.

The Panthers varsity squad enters the autumn season almost entirely brand new, with only one returning player – senior Lindsay Wedin – from last year’s roster.

Names change, goals remain the same for GSL football

Turnovers are to be avoided in football, but roster turnover in high school football are unavoidable.

While the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team contends with the loss of several key contributors from back-to-back state participating squads, the goal for this autumn’s edition of Panthers football remains the same.

“The goal is always to return to state and go to the Prep Bowl,” coach Scott Tschimperle said.

Panthers win football opener

With a 20-6 defeat of New London-Spicer on Saturday, Aug. 22, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team not only opened the 2015 season with a victory, it also gained a measure of revenge for a 13-12 loss to the Wildcats in the 2014 Class AAA State Tournament semifinals.

“We don’t reflect on the past,” coach Scott Tschimperle said of the win in relation to last year’s state tournament defeat. “We have a lot of respect for New London-Spicer and our kids were confident that we could win that game.”
