New dentist joins Dunbar Dental Clinic

Dunbar Dental Clinic in Glencoe welcomed a new dentist, Dr. Matthew Penz in May.
Penz is originally from Rochester and joined Dunbar after three years at a larger group practice. Penz said he made the transition because he preferred the style of a smaller, more intimate practice.
“I wanted something with a little bit more of a personal feel to it,” he said. “Here you have the freedom and ability to shape what this office is going to be and how you want to deliver care.”

McLeod For Tomorrow sets Glow Run Sept. 19

The McLeod For Tomorrow leadership program has set a 5K “Glow Run” for Sept. 19 in Hutchinson.
The run will be a fundraiser for the program.
Early-bird registration of $25 is available through Friday, Aug. 14. After that, registration is $30. Registration includes a Glow Run T-shirt. No shirts will be available after Aug. 28. Registration is limited to the first 500 runners.

United Way campaign kicks off at county fair

United Way of McLeod County (UWMC) Board President Ron Johnson announced recently that the regional nonprofit will have an exhibit booth at the McLeod County Fair, which takes place Aug. 19-23 in Hutchinson. The five-day run of the fair will serve as the kick-off period to the UWMC’s 2015-16 Campaign.

Seminars for Vietnam era vets set Aug. 13-14

McLeod County Veterans Services is hosting free seminars with information unique to active-duty Vietnam-era veterans (military service between Aug. 5, 1964, and May, 7, 1975), on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 13 and 14, at the McLeod County administrative building in Glencoe.
The seminars will be offered four times daily, at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Topics covered will include veterans’ access to health care, long-term care, disability benefits, financial assistance, end-of-life care, burial and survivor benefits.
