Panthers 2nd at Christian Heritage invite

Cross country teams have much running to do this week

As they prepared for a stretch of four runs in seven days, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams competed in just one race last week, finding themselves on the 5-kilometer course at Baylor Park for the second time this season on Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the annual Norwood Young America Lions Invitational.
The GSL boys took seventh in their 19-team field, while the Panther girls placed 11th among the 19 teams in their competition.

Gridders head into Homecoming at 5-0

A dank evening in Watertown did not dampen the spirits of the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team improved to 5-0 with a 33-0 blanking of host Watertown-Mayer on Friday, Sept. 18.

While the Royals were able to keep the Panthers offense in check for the first half, the GSL defense was solid from start to finish in notching its second shutout of the season.

“The defense is playing well,” linebacker Tristan Weber said. “Every game we’re doing better.”

Netters fourth at Hutch

After falling 7-0 to Delano in a dual match on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and a rainout of their dual versus Holy Family Catholic two days later, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ tennis team opened its weekend playing in the Hutchinson Tennis Invitational, finishing fourth overall.

The Panthers took on Foley, Princeton and the host Tigers on Friday, Sept. 18 in a number of round-robin matches in both singles and doubles play.

Lady Panthers take second at Heritage Christian tourney

The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team entered Homecoming week with a 10-3 overall record after finishing second at the Heritage Christian Tournament in Maple Grove last weekend.

After a four-game defeat of Wright County Conference opponent Litchfield on Thursday, Sept. 17, the Panthers went 5-2 in tournament play over the next two days.

The Panthers’ lone losses were to the tournament hosts, who are 14-0 on the season and ranked fifth in Class A.

Goals hard to come by for girls' soccer team

Goals have been hard to come by for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team. In five of its last six matches entering this week, the Panthers have found themselves on the unfortunate side of shutouts, with only a 3-3 tie versus Mayer Lutheran on Sept. 14 breaking the string.
