School district tweaking design of proposed building addition

Glencoe-Silver Lake is nailing down the details on its planned $24.19 million addition, right down to where there should be a water fountain or shelving.
Superintendent Chris Sonju gave a brief update on the building project at GSL’s first community school lunch Thursday, Sept. 24.
“We’re still tweaking … changing a wall here or a doorway there,” said Sonju.

Body cams: tool or tyranny?

The use of body-mounted video cameras, or “body cams,” continues to spark controversy.
There is no doubt that body cams can be a useful tool for law enforcement, because the camera doesn’t lie, unless it’s tampered with. Video provides protection for both law enforcement and for suspects, because it documents reality and helps eliminate the “he-said, she-said” aspects of law enforcement.

Thanks to Cemetery Board for clarification on issue

To the Editor:
I would like to thank the Glencoe City Cemetery Board for its letter last week which clarified its stand on the issue of the holding pond in the cemetery.
You have restored my faith in you and in your responsibility to hold and protect this entire area for the final resting place of our loved ones. I would have thought you were not alone in this endeavor, but that city officials would be just as committed to this important task.

Baby boy joins Meyers

Kimberly and Matthew Meyer of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Roman Kenneth Meyer, born Sept. 17, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Patricia Boehmer of St. Louis, Missouri, and Keith and Trish Meyer of Minneapolis.
