Son born to Shimer family

Stephanie and Carl Shimer of Gibbon announce the birth of their son, Ryker Quentin Shimer, born Sept. 14, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Ryker weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 18 inches long. He joins siblings Haylee, Chase and Savannah. Grandparents are Kevin and Janelle Klucas of Stewart and Mark and Kathy Shimer of Walker. 

Al Franken’s endeavor to regulate lobbyists

To the Editor:
Remember back in 2008 when Al Franken first made the scene in Minnesota? Who could forget the recount, the run-off with Norm Coleman and the eventual victory by our sterling senator. During his initial campaign, I recall vividly his saying that there should be an interval between being a member of Congress and becoming a lobbyist. Think the number was five years at that time. Well, now in 2015, this has become much more of an issue.

Baby boy for Johnson family

Heather and Joshua Johnson of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Phoenyx Michael Johnson, born Sept. 10, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Phoenyx weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He is welcomed by siblings Maxwell and Penelope. Grandparents are Carol and Michael Johnson of Chaska and Sara Schmitz and Rob Corder of Long Lake.

Daughter born to Prochaskas

Christine and Jason Prochaska of Hutchinson announce the birth of their daughter, Perrie Jean Prochaska, born Sept. 9, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Perrie weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 191⁄4 inches long. She joins a sister June, 5, and a brother Urban, 2. Grandparents are Larry and Linda Prochaska of Silver Lake, Sharon Krug and Paul Nelson of Litchfield, and the late Daniel Rau of Bigelow, Arkansas.

Cripps appointed acting Silver Lake police chief

The Silver Lake City Council on Monday night appointed full-time police officer RJ Cripps as acting police chief effective immediately.
 
The city has been in the process of hiring a new police chief since May, when former Police Chief Forrest Henriksen submitted his resignation with plans to relocate. Henriksen had agreed to stay on until he found other employment or sold his house.  
 

Silver Lake Council has sticker shock over Cleveland Street project costs

It wasn’t just the total project cost that got the Silver Lake City Council when it reviewed the feasibility report for a potential utility and street improvement project on Cleveland Street, but the amount that would be assessed to the property owners.
 

Brownton chosen for solar program

Brownton has been named one of four initial communities for an educational solar installation by the city’s wholesale electrical supplier, the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA), under the agency’s new Hometown Solar Grant Program. 
 

Stewart pursuing bypass road for Form-A-Feed truck traffic

The Stewart City Council will continue to pursue a possible bypass road on the north edge of the city to accommodate truck traffic to Form-A-Feed. Form-A-Feed is located on the northwest corner of the city.
 
The issue was discussed at the City Council’s Monday, Sept. 14, meeting.
 
The bypass road will run from County Road 7 on the east edge of the city somewhat parallel to the city’s North Street.

Elva Adeline Wendlandt, 92, of Brownton, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at the Shade Tree Retirement Center in Brownton.
 

Roger W. Vorbeck, 78, of Glencoe

Roger Warren Vorbeck, 78, of Glencoe, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
 
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “Here I Am, Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Borning Cry.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
