Chronicle/Advertiser earns 2 MNA awards

The Chronicle/Advertiser advertising department brought home two third-place awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest. Awards were announced Thursday at the association's annual convention.

Arvin Buss, 76, of Stewart

Arvin Buss, 76, of Stewart, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at his home.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sstewart. A fellowship gathering will be held for one hour prior to the service, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart. Lunch will follow the service in the church basement.

Lemke named to dean’s list

Christopher Lemke, son of Jonathan and Mary Lemke of Glencoe, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Lemke is studying biology and chemistry at Augsburg, and also is a member of the football team.

Daughter born to Bun family

Kim and Lee Bun of Shakopee announce the birth of their daughter, Sovanni Kathryn Bun, on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. Grandparents are Kathryn Ortloff of Glencoe and Ny and Heng Bun of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Great-grandmothers are Eunice Mackenthun of Glencoe and Ly Lay of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Megan Milbrand graduates

Megan Milbrand of Glencoe was among the December graduates at the University of North Dakota. Milbrand earned a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of business administration.

Mrkvicka member of EMSP

Mackenzie Mrkvicka of Brownton is a member of the Education Minnesota Student Program at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2015-2016 academic year. Mrkvicka is a freshman elementary education and special education major. 

Locals on Gustavus list

Gustavus Adolphus College of St. Peter released its dean’s list, which contains students who earned a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. On the list are Morgan Sanken of Brownton, Oakley Clark of Glencoe, Jacob Larson of Hutchinson and Heidi Ide of Plato. 

3 applications received for Silver Lake police chief job

The Silver Lake City Council learned that three applications have been received for the open police chief position as of the council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19. 
The Council established a hiring committee that will consist of the Council’s public safety liaison, Nolan Johnson, Councilor Brenda Fogarty and City Clerk Kerry Venier.

Marie Wanous, 95, rural Hutchinson

Marie Catherine Wanous, 95, of rural Hutchinson, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at her residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. The Rev. Paul Schumacher will be the celebrant and Alice Nowak will be the organist.

Ruth Lydia Wandrie, 93, of Glencoe

Ruth “Pinky” Lydia (Bentz) Wandrie, 93, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment following in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
