Volleyball remains atop WCC West

A three-game loss to the defending Class AA state champions did little to quell the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team’s enthusiasm as the Panthers bounced back from the defeat on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to sweep Dassel-Cokato two nights later and improve to 15-5 on the season.

It was a spirited night in the GSL gymnasium as the Panthers hosted the powerful Tigers in the midst of Homecoming week.

Girls' tennis falls in sectional opener

The Glencoe-Silver Lake tennis team wrapped up its full-squad season with a 4-3 loss at Southwest Christian in the opening round of the Section 2A Tournament on Monday, Oct. 3.

It was the narrowest of losses for the Panthers, who suffered three-set losses at both first and third singles after winning the first set in both.

Claiming singles wins for GSL was No. 2 Allie Harpel, who won in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and No. 4 Maddie Lemke, who won in a two-set sweep (6-2, 6-1).

Girls' soccer snaps losing skid

After a very difficult September that saw the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team drop eight consecutive games without claiming so much as a single goal, the Panthers earned themselves a most welcome victory to begin their final month of the 2016 season on Monday, Oct. 3.

Behind goals from Megan Fehrenbach and Emily Thalmann and 21 saves from goalkeeper Destiney Exsted, GSL claimed their third win of the year via a 2-1 triumph over Jordan at Stevens Seminary Stadium.

Boys' CC 10th at Swain Invite

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ cross-country team got in its share of competition last week – first heading north for the Dassel-Cokato Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and then heading way north for the Swain Invitational in Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 1.

First up was a run around Collinwood Park in Cokato on a seasonal grey afternoon. The Panthers took fourth out of nine teams in a meet comprised largely of Wright County Conference competition.

Panthers tear it up at Homecoming

With its season in jeopardy, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team put forth its most dominant effort of the autumn on Homecoming night.

“We’d been shooting ourselves in the foot a lot this season,” quarterback Luke Frahm said. “But tonight, everything seemed to click.”

Picking itself up off the mat on the heels of a three-game losing streak, the Panthers once again found their collective roar and tore into visiting Watertown-Mayer.
