Panthers enter playoffs on hot streak

Heading into its Homecoming game, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team was at its low point of the season, carrying a 1-3 record and a three-game losing streak into a Sept. 30 matchup against Watertown-Mayer.
The Panthers used the Royals as a springboard, winning 47-7 on Homecoming night to inaugurate a four-game winning streak that culminated in a come-from-behind 36-22 triumph at Litchfield to close the regular season with a 5-3 record.

Schroepfer tops in WCC West

A single hundredth of a second was the deciding margin as Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Austin Schroepfer legged his way to an individual title at the Wright County Conference West conference championship cross-country race on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Litchfield Golf Course.
Schroepfer out-ran conference runner-up Christopher Groth of Annandale with a victorious time of 16 minutes, 44.04 seconds to 16:44.05 for the Cardinal.

GSL volleyball wins third straight WCC West title

New London-Spicer didn’t make it easy, but the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team was able to overcome its upset-minded opponent and claim a third-consecutive Wright County Conference West championship by means of a five-game win over the host Wildcats in the circuit’s westernmost outpost on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
“It felt great to win the conference for the third year in a row,” middle hitter Maddie Monahan said. “It really shows all of our hard work in the summer and at practices pays off.”

Citizen council not needed

We are all so busy trying to figure who to vote for, or vote against, in the presidential election that we may not be aware of a proposed amendement to the Minnesota Constitution, which also will be on the Nov. 8 ballot.
The proposal would take away the state Legislature’s ability to set the salaries for state senators and representatives, and would instead delegate that task to a 16-member citizen council.
