Girls’ hoops aimed at state

There’s no hiding the fact that the 2015-16 season is one of high expectations for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team.
Eight months removed from a Section 2AA North subsectional loss to St. Peter that ended their season, the Panthers return several integral pieces of a team that went 15-13 overall and 8-6 in the brutal Wright County Conference West last season.
“I believe we should compete for a section title,” coach Jeff Monahan said.

Panthers look toward winter

With the probability of the season’s first snowfall this week, most of the Glencoe-Silver Lake winter sports teams have yet to officially begin practice.
With the 2016-17 season getting off to a little bit later of a start than last year, there’s been a bit of a lull in the local gymnasiums, with only the GSL seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball teams having taken up the yoke of winter competition.

Monahan signs with Drake

Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Maddie Monahan, who holds the career scoring record for the Panther girls’ basketball team, committed herself last week to attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and playing collegiate hoops for the Bulldogs.
“After visiting there a couple of times, I realized (Drake) was the place for me,” Monahan said.
