Community Thankgsgiving meal has become an annual tradition

What started as a project designed to bring youth in the community’s church together has evolved into a 24-year tradition — one that will continue Thursday, Nov. 24, as Glencoe hosts its annual community Thanksgiving meal at First Congregational Church of Christ.
Barb Magnuson, who has volunteered with the annual event since it started in 1992, said the program started with George and Donna Pavelek, who brought the idea with them when they moved to Glencoe.

Mavis (Schuette) Nass, 79, Moorhead

Mavis Elise (Schuette) Nass, 79, of Moorhead, formerly of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m., at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with the Rev. Penny Entinger officiating. Rachel Clausen will be the organist. Congregational hymns will be “Just As I Am,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Old Rugged Cross.”

Herman Henry G. Stark, 93, Glencoe

Herman Henry G. Stark, 93, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 14, at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake with the Revs. David Drager and Michael Fritz officiating. Cyndi Washburn was the organist. Soloist Pat Erickson sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and Shari Templin sang “I’ll Fly Away.” Special music were the Garth Brooks songs, “One Day at a Time” and “The Dance.” The congregational hymn was “Rock of Ages.”

Son born to Glencoe couple

Alejandra Cruz and Arnolfo Alcala Rosales of Glencoe announce the arrival of a son, Arnolfo Alcala Jr., born Nov. 7, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Arnolfo weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long at birth. He joins a sibling, Shantelle Noemi Alcala. Grandparents are Luz Maria Cruz of Glencoe, Rafael Gavina of Glencoe, Olga Rosales Diaz of Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, and Arnolfo Clemente Alcala Garcia of Long Prairie.
