Wrestlers drop two in abbreviated week

While the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team was scheduled to compete in four meets last week, an outbreak of skin herpes cut that schedule to just two.
Before the outbreak, the Panthers traveled to Arlington for a double dual meet against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (ACGC) and host Sibley East on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
It was not the kindest of evenings for GSL/LP as the Panthers dropped both ends of the double dual, losing 48-30 to ACGC and 44-21 to Sibley East.

Panther boys down NYA

After losing its first three games of the season, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team bounced back strong with a pair of double-digit victories.
The Panthers built on a 65-50 toppling of Hutchinson on Friday, Dec. 9, by hanging a 60-46 defeat on visiting Norwood Young America on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The win was GSL’s first in four tries against an opponent hailing from Section 2AA.

GSL girls split in pair of section matchups

After splitting a pair of home matchups against fellow Section 2AA competitors, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team entered this week with an even 3-3 record on the season.
The Panthers got out to a 12-0 lead on visiting Sibley East on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
However, unlike previous blowouts against Tri-City United and LeSueur-Henderson, the pesky Wolverines rallied and remained in the game until GSL pulled away late for a 72-55 victory.

Panther gymnasts win home opener

Following a “fun” meet at Northfield to open their season, the Glencoe-Silver Lake gymnastics team got down to business with its home opener on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
It was a successful 2016-17 debut for the Panthers on their “home field” as GSL downed visiting Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted/Holy Trinity by a score of 116.525-112.025.
Gia Venier won three of four individual events to claim the all-around victory with a total score of 31.050.
