Panther boys’ cagers trying to keep chins up

As promising as last week was for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team, the results still showed the squad slipping further behind in both the Wright County Conference West and Section 2AA pecking order – and the strain is beginning to take its toll.
“The guys are playing so hard and are giving us a chance to win, but then we fumble it away,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “It’s tough to keep the guys believing that we can do this – and we can.”

Monahan sets new girls' hoop scoring record; Panthers clicking

It was quite the week for Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball. The Panthers won two of three games – clinching a goal of playing at least .500 basketball before the return of forward Zoe Christensen and gave a top sectional opponent a fight to the finish on its home court before falling with optimism.
Oh, and there was the matter of crowning a new all-time scoring leader.
“Not a bad week,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said with a smile.

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team knew that last week was going to be fraught with difficulty.

And it was.

Girls' hoop rolling with the punches

With the season just rounding the halfway point, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team continued to sport a .500 record in spite of back-to-back defeats against the top two teams in the Wright County Conference West last week.

After opening 2016 with a pair of victories to hit a high water mark of 7-5 on the year, the Panthers were knocked down a few pegs in a 78-59 loss at WCC West leader Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and a 51-45 home setback vs. conference No. 2 Annandale three nights later.
