Girl born to Exsted, Perez

Mariah Exsted and Bernadino Perez of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Jazzlyn Marie Perez, born Feb. 5, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Jazzlyn weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long. 

Named to St. Thomas list

Keaton Anderson, Raymond Eberhard and Shannon Twiss, all of Glencoe, and Eric Thalmann, Plato, were named to the fall semester dean’s list at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul. Students must post a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be named to the list.

Schenk is Bethel graduate

Merrick Schenk of Stewart graduated from Bethel University following the fall 2015 semester. Schenk, the son of Anthony Schenk,  earned a  bachelor of arts degree in psychology. 

Locals named to U of M list

Kaylee Kruschke of Glencoe, Rachel Heuer of Lester Prairie and Zachary Jones and Kayla Nemec of Silver Lake all earned a spot on the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, dean’s list. The list recognizes students with a grade point average of 3.66 or higher. 

Ryan Schrempp promoted

Ryan K. Schrempp, a member of the U.S. Army National Guard since 2010, has been promoted to sergeant. He is now a fire control sergeant with the 1-125(-) Field Artillery Headquarters Battery in New Ulm, in which he has served his entire career. He is the son of Ken and Kathy Schrempp of Glencoe, and a 2011 graduate of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School.

Area students on Bethel list

Victoria Burr of Glencoe and Payton Maiers of Stewart were named to Bethel University’s dean’s list for fall  2015. Burr, the daughter of Bryan and Stacie Burr, is a junior. Maiers, the daughter of Mark and Cindy Maiers,  is a senior. To earn a spot on the list students had to attain a  grade point average of 3.6 or higher. 

RS Fiber plans to have wireless service to Stewart by March 31

The “backbone” for the RS Fiber fiber-to-the-home project has been built as far as Brownton, the Stewart City Council heard Monday night.
 
Mark Erickson, the city of Winthrop’s economic development director and a driving force behind the cooperative fiber project, said that the extension of the backbone from Brownton to Stewart, and then on to Buffalo Lake, Hector and Fairfax, will take place this summer.
 

Glenn James Pilarski, 71, of Delano

Glenn James Pilarski, 71, of Delano, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska. He had been battling cancer for 11⁄2 years.
 
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Lunch will be served following the service at the Delano American Legion.

Helen Mae Piehl, 88, of Silver Lake

Helen Mae Piehl, 88, of Silver Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at the United Hospital in St. Paul.
 
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5, at Grace Bible Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Tom Rakow officiating.
 
Casket bearers were Jarrod White, Ron Johnson, Mark Hanke, Alan Piehl, Matt Frauenshuh and Steve Pulkrabek. Interment was in the Grace Bible Cemetery.
 

Dale E. Peters, 76, of rural Brownton

Dale Elmer Peters, 76, of rural Brownton, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
 
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 8, at St. John’s Church in Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County, with the Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Mary Huebert was the organist. Soloist Darwin Frauendienst sang “Amazing Grace” and “I Come to the Garden Alone.”
