Two hurt in crash near Brownton

Two people were injured in a two-car, head-on accident on an icy Highway 212 just west of Highway 15, west of Brownton, today. The accident was reported shortly before noon.

Daughter born to Soto

Fatima Soto of Glencoe announces the birth of her daughter, Sophia Analee Canu, born Jan. 20, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Sophia weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces. She joins siblings Tiffany Contreras and Sebastian Cantu. Grandparents are Maria and Vicente Soto. 

Baby boy joins Skala family

Amber and Jeffrey Skala of Stewart announce the birth of their son, Landon Jeffrey Skala, born Jan. 27, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Landon weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 19 inches long. He joins sibling Bailey and Peyton. Grandparents are Nancy and Dwane Greiner of Biscay, Darren and Jennifer Robinson of Hutchinson and James and Charlene Skala of Cass Lake. 

Bauer honored in contest

Lauren Bauer of Brownton received an honorable mention for her submition to the 2015 “Mayor for a Day” essay contest sponsored by the League of Minnesota Cities. Students in grades four through six were asked to write an essay describing what they would do to encourage people to get involved with city government if they were mayor for a day. Bauer is a fifth-grade student at Sibley East. 

Garbers on dean’s list

Kristin Garbers of Silver Lake has been named to the Augsburg College dean’s list for the fall semester. Garbers is the daugther of Mark and Lynne Garbers and is majoring in financing and accounting.

Emily Olesen and Nate Heilman of Hutchinson announce the birth of Vera Anne Heilman on Jan. 24, 2016. Vera weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Charles and Anne Olsesen of Stewart and Doug and Debbie Heilman of Hutchinson.

Area students on Mankato list

Eckhoff is SCSU graduate

Paul Eckhoff of Glencoe graduated from St. Cloud State University on Friday, Dec. 18. Eckhoff earned a bachelor of science in biotechnology. 

Area students on dean’s list

Mary Arnold and Mary Schmitt of Glencoe were named to The University of Wisconsin - River Falls fall semester dean’s list. To qualify, students had to earn a grade point average of at least 3.5. Arnold is a health and wellness management major and Schmitt is an elementary education major. 

Goebel on chancellor’s list

Carolin Goebel of Brownton has been named to the chancellor’s list at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Geobel was one of 89 students who qualified for the list by attaining a 4.0 grade point average.
