Girls cagers head into section tourney

Van De Steeg — Franchuk

Elisa Van De Steeg of Hutchinson and Taylor Franchuk of Chicago, announce their engagement.
 
Parents of the couple are  Gary and Brenda Van De Steeg of Hutchinson and Loren and Lenore Franchuk of Carrington, North Dakota.
 
Elisa Van De Steeg is a graduate student and attended Minnesota State University Mankato.
 

Heitz — MulQueeny

Shannon Heitz and Ryan MulQueeny of Worthington announce their engagement. 
 
Parents of the couple are  Connie and John Heitz of Glencoe and Pamela and Patrick MulQueeny of Chaska. 
 
Shannon Heitz is a special education paraprofessional and attended Bethany Lutheran College. 
 
Ryan MulQueeny is an industrial engineer and attended Iowa State University. 
 

Girl born to LP couple

Jeannette Arroyo and Jorge Manuel Noyola-Salas of Lester Prairie announce the birth of their daughter, Kendra  Montserrat Noyola, born Feb. 21, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Kendra weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 19 inches long. She is welcomed by sister Kiana Monique Noyola. Grandparents are Barbara Noyola-Salas and Jorge Noyola-Garcia of Lester Prairie and Norma and Fernando Arroyo of Eagle Pass, Texas.

Daughter to Alvarado, Ayala

Liliana Ayala and Noe Alvarado of Arlington announce the birth of their daughter, Amilia Scarlett Alvarado-Ayala, born Feb. 13, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Amilia weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 191⁄2 inches long. She joins sibling Sheldon. Grandparents are Marta Reeinos and Carlos Ayala of Chaska and Adalia Alvarado of Glencoe. 

Baby girl to Aldrich family

Britta and Nick Aldrich of Glencoe announce the birth of their daughter, Sparrow Grace Aldrich, born Feb. 11, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Sparrow weighed 7 pounds and was 19 inches long. She joins sibling Teagan, Jace, Solveij and Esmae. Grandparents are Ralph and Susan Aldrich of Toledo, Ohio, and Dave and Gayle Harvey of Grand Marais. 

Burr earns all-academic

Jake Burr of Glencoe and the St. John’s University cross country team earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association All Academic recognition. Burr finished 17th at the MIAC championship and took 42nd at regional. He graduated in December with a 3.42 grade point average in environmental studies. To qualify for the team students had to earn a grade point average of 3.30 or higher. 

Wieseler is Rochester grad

Ashley Wieseler, daughter of Dwayne and Mary Jo Wieseler of Glencoe, graduated from the University of Minnesota - Rochester. She earned a bachelor of science degree in health sciences with a minor in public health. Wieseler also earned a spot on the chancellor’s list. 

Area students at conference

Ridgewater College Business Professionals of America members Roxanne Wavra and Connie Duenow of Glencoe and Amber Ellestad of Stewart will attend the Minnesota College Division State Leadership Conference and Competition. The event will take place at Dakota County Technical College Feb.18-20. Wavra and Ellestad are majoring in administrative assistant and Duenow is majoring in marketing. 

SL Council hires new police chief at council meeting

It’s been a long and bumpy road, but Silver Lake has a new police chief.
 
The police chief search discussion was the topic of a lengthy discussion at the Feb. 16 Silver Lake City Council meeting.
