Marlene Winseman, 79, of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
 
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Jan Heins was the organist. Soloist Tyler Exsted sang “Amazing Grace,” and soloist Laurie Goodwater sang “I Can Only Imagine.”

Kenneth Earl Picha, 74, of Glencoe

Kenneth “Kenny” Earl Picha, 74, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
 
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato with the Rev. Tyson Mastin officiating. Cheryl Andrix was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “In the Garden.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

A memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Maresh Funeral Chapel in Silver Lake, followed by inurnment at St. Anastasia Catholic Cemetery in Hutchinson.
 

James Howard Brelje, 42, of Glencoe

James “Jim” Howard Brelje, 42, of Glencoe, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at his home.
 
Private memorial services will be held with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace” and “Children of the Heavenly Father.”
 
Urn bearers will be Mr. Brelje’s nieces and nephews.
 

Boys’ hoop heads to playoffs on a loss

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 68-62 loss at Mound Westonka on Tuesday, Feb. 16. 
Individual statistics were not available.
Also lost on the night were the services of forward Alex Romano, who went down with a dislocated ankle suffered in the contest. 

Girls’ cagers net No. 3 seed for 2AA tourney

A pair of wins last week vaulted the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team to a 13-11 overall record and also the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Section 2AA North subsectional tournament.
“We definitely needed those wins last week,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “They were important for us to gain some confidence as well as making sure we got that third seed.”

Donnay headed to state meet

It’s all come down to one. 
Aaron Donnay will be the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team’s lone representative at this week’s state meet in St. Paul after the senior finished second at 138 pounds in the Section 2AA individual championships on Saturday in Mankato.
“It feels pretty good,” Donnay said. “I’m the first in my family to do it, so I’ve got some bragging rights now.”

County road restrictions start Monday

Spring load restrictions will go into effect on all McLeod County Highways on Monday, Feb. 22, and will remain in effect until further notice.
These restrictions protect the investments the county has made in its highways and help hold off costly pavement repair and unnecessary reconstruction.
All roads will be posted with signs indicating maximum allowable axle loads. Maps showing specific restrictions are available at the county highway office or on the McLeod County website at www.co.mcleod.mn.us/highway/slr .

Hockey Day celebration postponed

The Hockey Day celebration that was to be held at the Glencoe ice rink at 1 p.m. Saturday has been postponed until Feb. 27 due to the unseasonably warm weather conditions.
