Food shelf receives $2,500 donation

McLeod Emergency Food Shelf received a $2,500 donation from America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund and directed by local farmer, Nathan Schmalz of Lester Prairie (McLeod County).

McLeod County 4-H Family Fun Night set

McLeod County 4-H will host a variety of activities during its Family Fun Night Monday, March 7, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.
The project fair will be held from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., in the Agribition Building. Project tables include scrapbooking, Project Bowl, gardening, child development, horse, dog, archery, vet science, exploring animals, science, technology, engineering, math and more.
4-H’ers will showcase their culinary talents in the Favorite Food Show from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Plato blood drive results

On Feb. 25, the American Red Cross, sponsored by the Plato Lions Club, had a blood drive at Lighthouse Church, Plato.
Forty-four whole units of blod and nine double-red units, for a total of 61 units, were collected. The goal was 43 units. Each unit can save up to 10 lives.
Bump’s Restaurant and Unhinged! Pizza donated $5 gift certificates, which were given to donors who gave double-red units. Leon Alsleben received a pin for having reached a milestone of four gallons donated.

In a two-hour microcosm of the 2015-16 season, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team provided a roller coaster of thrills and chills – and nearly succeeded before coming up just short in a 64-62 overtime loss at Jordan in the Section 2AA playoff opener on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
