Courthouse access will be from north during jail expansion project

After the initial McLeod County jail expansion and security upgrade project came in significantly over budget early in 2015, the County Board went back to the drawing table, and reduced the footprint while maintaining the key components, changed some of the building materials and decided to hire Contegrity Group to serve as construction manager for the project.  These decisions paid off on Feb. 11, as bids came in at $7.7 million, slightly below the $7.9 million the board approved earlier for the project.

Glencoe man charged with lying to FBI

Abdul Raheem Habil Ali-Skelton, 23, of Glencoe, is facing federal charges of lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents about contacting terrorists in Syria last summer, according to a report by Paul McEnroe of KSTP-TV, Channel 5, Twin Cities. McEnroe cited court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

Handing down baseball traditions at GSL camp

Sights and sounds of the coming season filled the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School gymnasium on Monday, March 21 as the GSL baseball program welcomed local youth to the first day of the Panthers annual baseball camp.
“This camp is set up to instill the fundamentals of baseball that is carried over throughout the years that they are involved in the school program,” GSL head baseball coach Dean Schwirtz said.

A superb showing for Ober, SDSU at NCAA Tournament

Glencoe-Silver Lake alumna Clarissa Ober and her South Dakota State University (SDSU) women’s basketball teammates came within seconds of dancing their way into the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
The Jackrabbits, seeded 12th in the Lexington Region of the 64-team bracket, upset fifth-seeded Miami, 74-71 in their opening round game on Saturday, March 19, and nearly knocked off national power Stanford in the second round two nights later before falling late, 66-65.
