Daughter born to Schiller

Molly Schiller of Glencoe announces the birth of her daughter, Atley Elizabeth Schiller, born May 12, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Atley weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 18 inches long. Grandparents are Mark and Marilee Vacek of Glencoe and Michael and Luann Schiller of Hutchinson. 

Baby boy to Gueningsmans

Linda and Mark Gueningsman of Glencoe announce the birth of their son, Milo Joseph Gueningsman, born May 12, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Milo weighed 9 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 22 inches long. Grandparents are Pat and Tony Gueningsman of Winsted and Sandy and Jeff Thelen of Farmington. 

Son born to Ostlie family

Ashley and Alex Ostlie of Lester Prairie announce the birth of their son, Hendrix Lew Ostlie, born May 5, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Hendrix weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 21 inches long. He joins siblings Jade and Ava. Grandparents are Tim and Mary Ostlie of Norwood Young America and Leroy and Paulette Posusta of Silver Lake. 

Ridgewater BPA winners

Amber Ellestad of Stewart and Roxanne Wavra of Glencoe were recognized as national winners at the National BPA Leadership Convention in Boston. Ellestad earned awards for certiport certification in Word and Powerpoint and Wavra won the National Ambassador Torch Award. 

Ebert, Lange receive award

Brandon Ebert of Silver Lake and Samantha Lange of Glencoe were honored at the Agriculture Department Awards Banquet at Ridgewater College - Willmar. Ebert received the following awards for state competition: first place power, structural and technical systems. Ebert is the son of Joseph and Michele Ebert. Lange, the daughter of Mark and Lana Lange, received a second-place livestock production award and third-place livestock specialist award. 

Ribar earns merit scholarship

Erika Ribar attended a scholarship brunch at the University of Minnesota Crookston for recipients of the school’s merit scholarship. Ribar, of Brownton, is planning to major in Animal Science. 

Silver Lake City Council approves repairs of damaged city sidewalks

Over the last year, the city of Silver Lake’s Public Works Department completed an inventory of the condition of the city’s sidewalks. 
In the inventory, 23 sections of sidewalk were identified as needing replacement. Of those 23 sections, nine of the most severely damaged are scheduled for replacement this year. 

Gene O. Siewert, 77, of Hamburg

Gene O. Siewert, 77, of Hamburg, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 13, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hamburg, with the Rev. Donald Andrix officiating.
Casket bearers were Mr. Siewert’s grandchildren. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Robert John ‘RJ’ Nohr, 65, of Glencoe

Robert John “RJ” Nohr, 65, of Glencoe, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 10, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe after collapsing at home.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, May 14, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with the Rev. Randy Schussman officiating. Nicole Gepson was the organist. Special music was “Amazing Grace” and “It Is Well With My Soul.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “A Medley of Hymns.”

Duane James Nelson, 57, of Winthrop

Duane Nelson, 57, of Winthrop, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 12, 2016, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, May 18, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop, with the Rev. Jeffrey Horejsi officiating. Thomas Maidl was the organist and Joanie Vivering was the soloist. Special music was by Gayle Ober as a prelude.
